RNY...5 years out
on October 12, 2011 4:53 pm

Should have posted sooner...Got busy with work and errands.  I've posted 3 new pictures on my profile.  A lot of people want to see the process (or decay) of what the years look like.  Trying to keep it real for you new post ops.
I can eat anything without dumping...That can be a problem since it opens up the bad carbs (simple carbs) to my eating habits.  Things like soft serve ice cream and fried food never sit well with my pouch...So I limit those type of things.  I really eat good throughout the day...But I cheat also.  Things like chocolate and chips are my downfall...But I will combine them with a salad or stew or yogurt so it sort of balances it out.
I try and ride my bike as much as I can (see profile).  If the weather is bad or too smoggy I won't do it.  I've had 2 heart attacks over the years (1 pre op and 1 post op)...So I avoid hot smoggy days to help my heart.  I run many of my errands on my bike.  This is another way to repent for my bad eating behavior (just me).  I'm also a security guard so I have to walk between 2-5 miles per shift.  It works well for my lifestyle...being forced to walk daily!!
I now weigh 217-218...Yes, I would like to be under 200...But compared to 290-300...I'll take that any day.  I work on losing...I got down to 210 a few months ago...Then things got busy (life interrupted) and I stopped working on the diet.
Well that's it...I'm waiting for my daughters to marry...I WANT GRANDCHILDREN!!!  Life is good.  I feel blessed by God.  Later, Brian

Had RNY 4 years ago today...
on October 9, 2010 10:26 pm
Yeah, 4 years today was my cut.  I put 3 new pictures up on my profile...boy, am I getting old!!  I'll do just a small update.  I'm working quite a bit as a security guard...at different medical facilities.  I take care of my house and 2 rental houses.  Both my daughters are out of the house...I want grandchildren!!  Went into the Cath Lab yesterday to have my heart checked.  Just a small blockage...but no stent or bypass needed...Praise God!!  I ride my bicycle a ton when I am not working.  It's my away time for both exercise and clearing my mind.  Yes, I have gained some back...which is normal, but still couldn't be happier with the surgery.  Just thought you'd like to see.  Brian

3 years out today...
on October 9, 2009 3:49 pm
Hey, just letting you know it has been 3 years.  I have put on some weight but still have kept a lot of it off.  Time starts to fly after awhile when we are just living life and doing our normal routines.  I've put 2 new photos on my profile.  One from today...3 years out and the other was 2 months before surgery.  For you people on the fence about surgery...go for it.  You won't regret it.  For those who have just had surgery...hang in there, it does get better.  A big Thanks to you old timers out there, for leading the way and answering my questions at all hours of the day and night.  I appreciate all of you on these boards, which makes this a great place for support.  Love to all.  Brian

Now...2 years...
on October 9, 2008 10:03 am
Yeh guys...the big 2 years today.  Some big things have happened over the last year.  The biggest thing is I got bigger.  After hitting my goal of 190 (with a lowest of 187), I proceeded to gain 25 pounds back over those 2 years.  With the use of Pepsi (my old friend...or should I say nemesis), fried foods, processed carbs, etc. I got up to 215.  July 25, 2008 I had my second heart attack (the first one was 9 years ago).  I had to have a stent put in.  It really woke me up concerning my life here on earth (I still need to make my teenage daugther's roll their eyes at me...with how "out of it" I am).
I have worked my weight down to 196 over the last 2 months or so.  It has been a battle but I am doing alot better.  I still enjoy the Men's Forum, California Forum, and will look at the Main Forum sometimes.  Hearing questions like "I can't get in all my water or protein" from newbes can get boring after awhile...But we are here for support and try and give back (not just receive).  I have taken up bike riding more.  Enjoy it alot.  Sometimes I feel like a 10-12 year old kid on it.  When I want to stay just around the neighborhood I will ride the bike like a kid forced to stay "in the neighborhood" by his mom or dad.  I'll ride on the sidewalks, in and around cars, try some trick riding (to impress the girls...like riding with no hands!!).  Life is pretty good.  I am blessed by God.  Later, Brian

One year out...
on October 10, 2007 9:36 am
Yeh, it's been one year since the cut.  I was at a high of about 300.  I have dropped to as low as 187 and am now around 194, (my goal is 190).  I want to thank many different people for their support.  OH for all the help and support, especially the Men's Forum (great group of guys...straight shooters).  My wife for putting up with my day in and day out "I'm down another pound!!"  I know it gets old after a while but she bit her tongue for my support.  I want to thank my PCP, cardiologist, and WLS surgeon for giving the go ahead for the surgery (if anyone of those doctors had nixed it I might be dead by now).  Thanks to the Main Board for letting me ask questions at 3:47am and get responses back within minutes, (maybe not good responses, but responses none the less!!).  To the California Board for sharing insights to doctors and for meeting together at different times.  And lastly I want to thank the Lord for being so merciful toward a dip like me.  For those of you who are on the fence about this surgery, "GO FOR IT".  You won't regret it.  You may say "well what if I die?"  You are a cardiac issue just waiting to happen if you don't.  Love to all, Brian

My Story

Hi...Brian From Turlock CA.  Had my ROUX-N-Y done on 10-9-06.  I'm 6 days OUT (going to support groups that was a new term they used).  The support group sounded alittle like AA or NA.  I'm all for the support groups and have gone to one before surgery.  Not putting them down.  Just that word.  Have a question.  Who is the best person to tell me which drugs are absorbed in the stomach and which elsewhere?  I start on solids (Puree) on Monday.  For the most part I seem to be good.  Personal stuff: I'm 51, married 21 years, 2 daughters 17 and 19.  I'm a security guard.  I was a farmer (Almonds) and a real estate agent.  That is enough for now...
