Surgeon Testimonial

Barry Sanchez
Wow was my very first impression because he is a hotty! No b/s. He was very thorough about surgery, what it was, what is required or me. The best was he took the time to tell me, not just put me into a class or listen to a video. rnThe staff was great, from phone call backs to time waiting in the office. Plus the nutritionists at the El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA are great. rn3/15/07- RNY 1/31/07 post op now and doing great. Went to Burlingame yester and lost 15 lbs in 4 weeks and 10lbs the first week, total 25 for 5 weeks. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Dr. Sanchez & I discussed a knee surgery I need for a torn minisucuss (splng) and I have to wait. He's very throurogh about why I have to wait. His demenor is always what I need to hear. I'll be there again April 25, 07 for my next weigh in.

Oh my where do I begin? I suppose from the beginning as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz says. Since forever I have been bigger than most in my family. Countless diets, praying, starving myself, wishing I was some thin, making plans for a better life, promises, etc, etc!

My name is Dora from CA, Central Coast.  My journey with WL began early on in my life. My first memory of being told that I should cut down on food and be more active was in the 2nd grade. A yard duty teacher (male) that was watching us kids during recess came up to me and told me that I was a big girl and then I knew I was different from other kids. He was nice but then I saw and thought of myself as being fat. My dad pretty much confirmed it shortly after. This has been a life long struggle and I am anxious to loose. Life has been the struggle you all know, dieting, trying a variety of exercises, etc. The part that has hardest is when I fell at work and hurt my knees, my right one has a torn minicuss (<-spelling), so this put a big damper on my life, stairs, dancing my favorite hobby, sex makes me cry cuz my knee gets popped out of place, walking is like torture! So, the WLS, I've wanted it for about 3 years now, and so it has come to pass! "Thank you Jesus!" Blessing are what I live for, I love the Lord. My journey is slow going, but I know this is going to happen for keeps now, when it's off, it will be gone for goods! Blessed with my sons, family and special friends, I love life and am anxious for the future for the first time in a very long time!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008!
on January 4, 2008 2:39 pm
I just cannot believe it is 2008 and almost a year since my WLS. My surgaversary is 01/31/2008!  This has been some ride and I'm about 1/2 way there.  I had knee surgery on 9/10/07 and that really slowed my progress w/ not being able to work out faithfully. God willing with the injections (3 in 3 weeks) it will help and I can get back into the pool and to my home workout routine. My family and friends have been a wonderful support system and my sons are always there for me.
I have been truly blessed and feel so much better.  Started dating again too but taking it very slowly.
Hope that my little story can inspire someone, if you every want a shoulder drop me a line.

August, can't believe it's been over 6 months since...
on August 14, 2007 4:21 pm
My my my  how time flies!  I've actually had a pretty descent summer and feel really great!  Had a vacation with my lovely sisters. There was up to 5 of us at any given time during the vacation.  We had great times, seems so long ago now and it was just last month.
Going to baby showers, bridal showers, dancing (not enough), the beach, and coming up wedding and family reunion!  Whoa, the very bestest part is that I am able to enjoy and not trip about not having the energy to keep up with the "normal" size family members.  I use to exclude myself and make up excuses why I didn't attend functions or outings.  But not anymore, that is the old me!  I'm down a total of 91#'s as of yesterday, Monday, August 13, 2007!  I just couldn't stop smiling, looks like I had sex or something, LOL!  Anyway, I have a ways to go to my ulitimate goal, but am to happy today.
Have to live one day at a time and "Eat to live, not live to
 eat".  Yep!
I have to write this too, the many thanks to my family and
friends for their support.  My sister Iza loaned me the cash
for every part of my WLS, YES!  Thank you sister dear!  I
have been blessed with some wonderful girlfriends that are
so good to me and I do love and appreciate these ladies!
You know who you are, let's not name names, heehee!
Until the next time, stay blessed and chew chew chew (aka the little train that could)!

Summer is here!
on June 26, 2007 2:46 pm
I am so syked!  Wow, time is flying bye and I'm actually having a really good time, I sound negative in that statement but if you knew what my last summer was like then you would understand and if you want to know ask me about it. I'd be more than willing to share my summer of '06 with you.
So, to continue this past weekend was awesome! I had a visit with my ex's daughter ages 9 & 10. We went to 2 beaches, Dennis the Menace Park, the movies, out to eat and had the best time! Saw Even Almighty, that was funny, I recommend it for all ages.
On Saturday I'm going with 2 of my sons and a girlfriend to Mountain View Ampitheater to see an oldie concert featuring some all time favorites, WAR, Brenton Woods and some others.
Then on July 6th I will be going to Oceanside to visit a sister and the best part is I don't have to drive! Oh that's not the best part, duh this is going to be so fantastico, my sis is so great and my niece her daughter is going to be there too, (she lives in Colorado)! So this is great....man I am so blessed.
Okay the adventures just keep on coming, so the following week, the week of July 9th another sister of mine will be coming to visit for 2 weeks, she lives in WI. (FYI, I have 7 sisters), she's bringing a very good friend of hers with her, the more the merrier!  Wow, I am so happy that I have energy to keep up, I can walk for long periods of time now...before I wouldn't go with them to day trips cuz I couldn't keep up.
I'm almost to my first goal which is to be under 300#'s!  I'm trying so hard, I'm cutting out dinner and drinking a protein shake in it's place. Maybe I should have 2 shakes instead of 1. Like 1 for breakfast and 1 for dinner, hhmmmm it's an idea.
And so I hope you all are having a wonderful summer so far....I plan too!
God Bless

May 24, 2007
on May 24, 2007 4:43 pm

Time sure is going by fast, 1/2 the year is almost gone, I turned 46 this month, my youngest will be 22 on Monday and I'm down a total of 72# since pre-op Oct. 2007!  This has been a blessing, WLS isn't at all what I dreamt of. I can walk down isles of stores without my legs cramping, I can fit into cloths I haven't worn in 4 years and they are even loose!
OH has been here the entire time waiting for me. I feel so close to so many people that I don't even know, that I haven't even posted to. I look forward to checking the site daily to learn new things and to find this network of such awesome people.
My sons, my family and my friends are so fantastic for their support.
I can't imagine what life would be like now if I hadn't had WLS.
I've been reading some profiles of the individuals who work for OH and have been part of the Irvine Conference. I love the idea of "Paying It Forward".  I want to do something. Here at work my co-workers who have become my good friends are great, they have become inspired by me, but you know if I didn't have their support it wouldn't mean so much to me.
Please feel free to drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you,
God has truly blessed me with all the love I have in my life.
Until the next time....blessings!

7 Weeks Post Op
on March 20, 2007 3:45 pm
Time sure does fly when you're not looking!   Today's been a pretty uneventful day. Work is slow and I'm feeling bored here, pray I get a promotion, I've applies for 3 jobs, all promotions, 2 I'd like to do, 1 can do but not too thrilled if it's offered to me.
Had pizza topping for lunch, it was easy not to indulge on crust.  My eating is pretty steady going, no huge to worry about.
Last week at my 6 week f/u I had an additonal 15 off for the 4 weeks.

Looking forward to going dancing on Friday to dance the night away!

28 Days after WLS
on February 28, 2007 4:55 pm
Another BIG WOW for me...I have a new membership at the YMCA and last night I went to their Water Aquatics class which was a bit shallow for my taste but joined in anyway. I'm use to going this a pool which is 5' deep but I did love going into the jacuzzi after.  My big WoW is they have a scale there and from what a good friend of mine tells me it is pretty acuate.  So there I go and step up since I hadn't been on a scale since my 1st post-op appt. on Feb. 7, '07.  I had to do a double take at what it read-I lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks!  Whoohoo!  A total of 35 for my first month!!!  Man was I floored and super duper extatic!  So tonight I can't go to either pool cuz my pinche car is having a crisis.  Oh well it's laundry night early.
Until the next time.....God love ya..

23 Day post op
on February 23, 2007 2:01 pm

Here I am sitting at work after surgery 23 days ago.  I am truly blessed, my WLS was the best thing I have ever done for myself!  At my first post op visit I lost 10lbs. how's that for a BIG WOW!  I'm eating a very small variety of foods and only had a couple of little incidents of eating too much or too fatty, little dizzy, tummy ache and nausea symptoms but not actually the act, whew this is a learning process.
Today I went to the YMCA for a 6 month membership thanks to my WorkComp injury!  I can't wait to get back into the pool and start strength training, I miss it.
I'm loving reading all the forums, I'm getting really good info, thanks to the OH staff and all of you who participate!
Until next time, God bless and keep on typing...

The first entry...
on January 25, 2007 4:20 pm

Here I am getting started in this site wondering how much I will enjoy this journey.  I am 6 days away from having my surgery.  I am not scared, stressed or even worried, I just want to get it done with and get on with living.  I'm tired of dieting and eating.  I'm the type of person who, "lives to eat" not the correct "eat to live".
