Surgeon Testimonial

David Suh, M.D.
Dr. Suh is very professional. I trusted him because he was reserved and informative. He did not boast or brag... his GBS patients did all the bragging for him! Office was small and simple. Staff was pleasant. My insurance is with Kaiser so I had to complete 24 weeks of classes and then get my referral. He expects his GBS patients to comply with the structured diet and follow up appointments. Group meetings are recomended. We were given informative brochures that covered surgery risks and complications. He is a doctor, not a friend. His bedside manner is fair, but his surgery skills are just awesome! I would highly recommend Dr. David Suh and Crown Surgery Center. A+

I forgot to mention that right after my recovery I called hubby's gf who had no idea he was still married and ratted him out.... then I threw him out! My divorce papers were filed back in June or July, and will be final around January, 2009. WHOOT WHOOT! Never thought I could be so HAPPY about that. Oh, and the best part is the court ordered child support and spousal. I will be getting half of his paycheck! Life is good! BTW hubby is sleeping in his car at the truck stop in Ontario and has to pay $8 bucks to shower to go to work. And with his back being stiff after sleeping in his car, he won't be up for hanky panky with anyone. Yea... life is good!

Oh, and I take half of my metformin for diabetes once daily instead of two huge pills twice daily, so that is good also.

I LOST MT DADDY!!!
The only bad thing in my life right now aside from bills and all the regular things is that my Daddy died on Aug 17th the day before my surgery and I really miss him. I couldn't let myself cry much because I had to stay strong. He was all the way across the US in South Carolina and wanted to be with me and the kids in California, but my mom had power of attorney and put him in a home. He gave up on life and then his heart did!
I think he was worried about me since he had already lost 2 of his 3 children. Maybe my surgery went so well because he was looking out for me... who knows.... but it did go amazingly well!

I'M ON THE LOSERS' BENCH!
on September 4, 2008 10:12 pm
MY SURGERY WAS AUG 18, 2008 AND ALL WENT WELL. I WAS ABOUT 345 JUST ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE SURGERY. AT MY 1 WEEK FOLLOW UP I WAS DOWN ABOUT 11 POUNDS. ON WEDNESDAY I WENT TO THE GYM JUST TO USE THE SCALE AND WAS DOWN TO 332.8 POUNDS. I AM NOT LOSING AS FAST AS I THOUGHT I WOULD, BUT I CAN HOLD AN 8 OZ. PROTEIN SHAKE AND A CHEESE STICK ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER SO I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER WHY MY NEW 1 OZ.  EGG SIZED POUCH COULD PROBABLY HOLD ABOUT 5 TIMES WHAT IT SHOULD. BTW... AFTER SURGERY, THE GAS WAS THE WORST PART. tHE RECOVERY HAS BEEN EASY!

Up by about 20 pounds!
on May 18, 2008 2:32 pm
I went to the gym to weigh in just last week and weighed 359 with clothes and tennies. My surgeon won't reschedule me untill I get that weight back off. I am sad and my husband is a mean man. He keeps telling me how much he hates me and how disgusting and fat I am. At this point I am ready for a divorce. I just hope to make it out alive. I want to have my surgery first and then I will file papers I already filled out. He is so mean that he refuses to start up the swamp cooler and it must be atleast a hundred degrees here in the desert. Life really sucks right now. My mom stuck my dad in a nursing home and she refuses to talk to me or the grandchildren. Life is just crazy.

Well, no surgery yet! I am really pissed off... can you tell? I had to take steroids to clear my lungs, and gained almost 10 pounds! WTF! And to top it off, Kaiser postponed my surgery, which means I have to wait till the kids are out of school. Easter Vacation was my golden ticket. Oh, and the real kicker is that some of the people in my class had their surgery around Christmas and the new year and are down between 40 to 90 pounds! Good for them! Just in time for Summer. Lucky! Yes, my time will come, but I am feeling more like I missed the bus. Maybe even got tossed under that Mutha!

My MO health problems...before I forget to list them.
on February 19, 2008 11:55 am

In 2001 I delivered my 3 rd child. He weighed 9pounds and14oz. He should have been an emergency cecarian...  just because of his15 inch head alone!
I had a baby GEORGE LOPEZ! Anyhow, I had 2 mos. bed rest before and after delivery. So, I weighed about 352 going in to the hospital and about 345 coming out. Then I lost down to 341 slowly, but stopped having periods. I had to take medroxyprogesterone to start a cycle. One time I bled for over a month. When I went into emercency because of the bleeding, they did bloodwork and found out I had an underactive thyroid. I thought, great... I will lose weight now with the med. for that.  NOPE!  My wight went up, up, up from there. Also my OBYGN had put me on wellbutrin which made me gain weight. He said it would stop my food cravings. I wasn't overeating, I was underactive.... and my body hurt to move because I had lost muscle. By 2004 I weighed around 365. I still had to take hormones to have a cycle, but my liver now showed signs of fatty liver disease. This was the year I lost my half brother at the too soon age of  53 to schlerosis of the liver from hepatitus due to a blood transfusion. He had been stabbed by a gang of men while they were attempting to rob him, but he was jogging his 5mile run without his wallet and was, if memory serves me correctly, a 6th degree black belt. His deffensive skills saved his life. He had over 30 stab and puncture wounds. So, liver disease literally scared me to death. Then anxiety from that and being in a loveless marriage set in. My Dr. put me on prosac which did nothing, because I wasn't depressed, I was just fat and miserable. After 5 weeks, he told me I could stop. I did. By then my blood work showed I was pre diabetic. He did nothing. By 2005 I had hypertension, high bloodpressure and extremefatty liver. HBP meds made me faint so they eventually gave me just 5 mg of lysinopril. In 2007 I was admitted to Kaiser Fontana and diagnosed with full onset of type 2 diabetes. Fow 2 years I had been a shell of the woman I once had been.I could barely get myself out of bed to get thekids to school. I had no energy for grocery shopping or cooking, let alone cleaning and child raising. I was dying. By the grace of God I had gotten myself a referral for GBS from my quack doctor before I had changed doctors. I was  in my GBS classes when diabetes hit me. It became urgent to lose weight and surgery was the answer for me. One condition, though... I had to lose 10% of my total body weight before surgery. I was 384 when my doctor saw me lastbeforemy GBS classes started. I was 381 on my first day of class. I lost about 5pounds a week untill I went into the hospital for diabetes.I gained 5pounds in3 daysandcouldn't lose weighton the diabetic diet. It was just too much food. My doctor told me to change the diet to suit me... and gave me an RX for  phentermine in a lowdose to help control hunger. I continued to lose about 5 pounds a week on a modified diabetic diet.  I have had about 3 months worth of phentermine to help with weight loss out of the whole 7 or 8 months of weight loss since my diabetes onset. I don't rely on the phentermine, but it is a tool to reach my goal. Others in my GBS class have had similar results with diet and exercise alone,  but most have only lost a few pounds, if any.  When my blood work was done to prepare for surgery, my fatty liver was remarkably better. On a graph, my  improvments are amazing. My knees and ankles feel much better, too. Right now I take metformin 1000mg 2xday, lysenopril 5mg, simvistatin 40mg, and levathroid 88mcg. I no longer take 25mg hydrochlorothiazide for water retention and swelling or medroxyprogesterone hormone RX to have a cycle. Since November 2007, my cycle comes on its' own! I never thought that would be good news, but it is.

Sorry I checked out!
on February 19, 2008 11:34 am
My last post was on Dec. 11 andI have been busy with puppies. My cocker spaniels pups were born Dec. 2, 2007... right on my birthday! If youwant to see pics visit my new web site (I told you I had been busy) at www.reginascaliforniadreams.com. Anyway, I broke my toe not long after my last post and quit the gym entirely, but with a doctors note,so I can resume post -op. I have had my surgery consultation, and my psych evaluation. She didn't realize I was NUTS! No, just kidding... it  was to see that I was aware of the dangers of surgery and to make sure I was capeable of making the decision to do so. I now weigh 341 pounds, so that's good. I am hoping to have surgery around or on Good Friday- March15, 2008. That sounded like a good date for a new birthday. Also, I am hoping to weigh around 335 pre-op on my surgery day. I have a chance of making that happen.I am almost there. Thank you for following my blog. Love to all...
I will get new pics up soon!

Crown Bariatric seminar at the Hilton
on December 11, 2007 3:46 pm
Before I forget, I met Dr. Suh from Crown. I have a friend at the gym named Guy,  and he had his surgery done by Dr. Suh a few years ago. Guy weighed over 400 pounds and is down to 180. He is at the gym 3 days a week and works with a trainer. He looks FANTASTIC! He recomended Dr Suh to me. I trust Guy and I feel good about Dr. Suh. I will be treated like a person and not just a number ( quoting Donna, a new friend through Kaiser GBS classes) and that is what is important to me. Crown has a 5 star rating and is credited by the centers of excellence or something like that... sounded great at the seminar and I have pamphlets to help me research all that. The best part is that I won't have to wait as long. I may have my GBS by Feb. 2008. YAY!

My Story

Hello, My name is Regina Castillo and I am a pre-op hopeful. I will graduate my Kaiser Classes on Oct. 29, 2007. I was 384 at my highest weight. I am now 353.7 after almost 5 months of required gastric bypass education classes. I need to loose about 10 more pounds before surgery, but I am shooting for 20 more pounds. I recently joined a local gym and do about 1 mile on the treadmill 3 times a week. That is a big accomplishment for me...especially since I can do it without taking a break. Before I lost weight, I could barely stand for 5min. - let alone walk for 25.  Also, I am doing a few of the weight lifting machines just to try and gain some muscle.

I am 37 years young and will be 38 in December. I am unhappily married and am so unappreciated. I am the mother of 3 wonderful children who give me reason to keep on keeping on. I wish I could say "Life is good," but for now, all I can say is that ... 'Life is gonna get a lot better, and real soon!"  My husband is no support at all, but that is why God gave me such good friends!

My " Things I can't  wait to do list"  includes horseback riding, rollercoaster riding, dancing, shopping, shopping, oh...and did I mention shopping? I can't wait to wear a swimsuit at the beach.  I can't wait to go hiking.  I can't wait to go to Disneyland. I can't wait to look hot!  I can't wait to feel good about my body!  I can't wait to see the new me!!!!!
