Surgeon Testimonial

Kimberley Steele
My first impression of Dr. Steele was that she is very thorough and strict. She wants to know that the patient fully understands the risks of the procedure and the lifelong changes they will need to make. The staff at Johns Hopkins Bayview is very patient oriented. They are fabulous. Aftercare at the hospital was very attentive. Dr. Steele has an excellent bedside manner. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

6 weeks post-op....
on February 14, 2010 1:03 pm
The past several weeks have presented several challenges, however we are doing well.  From the beginning, it was challenging for me to get the daily required nutrients and protein.  Consequently, I was feeling extremely fatigued.  I went to see a nutritionist whom assisted me in making a daily meal plan, also I received a B12 shot.  Delaying my scheduled return to work by a week, I focused on attempting to eat per the meal plan and ensuring I took all my meds and vitamins.  I am feeling much better.  Hope everyone found a moment to enjoy the past weeks weather.  I further benefited from the snowpocalyspe (43" of snow in 5 days).  Friday was my first day back in the office since December 31st.  The day went well for the most part.  By early afternoon I had an upset stomach and splitting headache.  Fortunately, my son works for a firm across the street from my office and had carpooled w/me, so he did the evening drive home.  I felt ill  all Friday evening and Saturday.  This morning,  I determined the source of my illness was the chili I had for lunch Friday and Saturday.  So this has been the first meal I had that did not agree with me.  It was some chili I brought at a restaurant.  The chili had beef in it.  I am not a big beef eater.  I believe the chili just had too much grease/fat.  The gas was awful.  Thankfully, tomorrow is a holiday.  That will give me one more day to get myself together for work.  I will have to really focus on ensuring I eat and get my vitamins in so I will have the strength to perform my duties................Weight wise, it appears I've hit a plateau.   Hopefully it will pass soon.  Otherwise all is well.  It is nice fitting into some old clothes that I had previously out grown.

2-Week Post-Op Appt
on January 21, 2010 5:21 pm
Hello everyone!

Today was my 2-week post-op appointment.  Overall everything is moving along wonderfully.  I did express concern over feeling very tired, weak, dehydrated every morning upon waking.  The doctor feels more protein and water will assist.  Official summary is a weight lost of 22 lbs since surgery day (Jan 5th).  The best news of the day, No more High Blood Pressure Medications for me.  The doctor indicated I likely will be able to come off the diabetes med over the next month or two, but it may be a year for the cholesterol medication.

So in attempt to get more protein, I am nibbling on my 3rd serving (2-oz) of chicken f/the day.

The surgery went well.  The staff at JH was absolutely fabulous. Very professional, patient oriented.  I could not have hoped for a better experience.  Now I have the tool, it's up to me to use it properly.

A New Year.....New Beginning
on January 9, 2010 3:28 pm
Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

My surgery was on Tuesday, January 5th.  I was released from the hospital yesterday, January 8th.  Appears everything is as it should be.  The Home Health Nurse stopped by today.  Stated my incisions and drain are fine, they will be checking my wounds about twice a week for a couple of weeks.  For the most part I feel fine.  Yesterday was a small challenge.  My drain was removed at the hospital but there was still significant drainage.  It appears that was just for the evening.  No excess drainage today.  A bit challenging getting all the protein and fluids in.  I wasn't hungry until my son was cooking breakfast this morning.  It smelled so good and I'm on the full liquid diet.  I told him he could not be cooking food around me for a while (LOL).  Otherwise all is well.  Wishing the best to everyone that you achieve your goals.
