My Story

My story so far...
I first got fat when I was about 7 or 8 years old. It was a struggle for me throughout my life. For a brief period in high school I was a normal weight, only to gain it (and much more) back again after graduation and over the next 12 years. There has always been a great deal of obsession/depression regarding my career path. It boils down to being an artistic personality and not manning up to the challenge. I also failed nursing school twice, some of which was due to anxiety.
I am married and have a little home in the woods in the Inland Empire, though I do spend a fair chunk of time in the San Gabriel Valley.
I enjoy working with glass, jewelry, beads, gourds, watercolor, and dyeing with natural indigo. I love home decor and I hope to get into "decorating" myself more after I get surgery.
Because of the economic meltdown, hubby and I have gone a long time without adequate medical coverage. Hubby got a job with a company that offered Kaiser, which we jumped at. I am finished with the Options program, which I felt did a really good job in preparing me. I can't imagine going forward without having done the program. Right now I am waiting on getting the ultrasound results and being referred to Pacific Bariatric in San Diego. Although I had started my journey wanting the lap-band, I have since changed my mind and hope to get a vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
I look forward to reaching goal and taking a trip to the bay area, which I have always loved. I haven't been there in a long time. Also, my husband has never been and I want to share that with him. And, the shopping...wow!
I am hoping to gain enough self confidence to finish up my degree and find where I belong (most likely having to do with art glass in one capacity or another.)
