Surgeon Testimonial

Howard Simon M.D.
So far I have only gone to the information session where the surgeon, the dietician and the exercise physiatrist(?) talked. I was impressed with his record, he answered many questions from the audience. There was an
emphasis on before and aftercare. The importance of exercise and emotional needs of the patient. Have appointment next week with post more then.

My initial appointment was march 19th and I was told I wound be a good canidate for laporoscopic gastric bypass I handed all of the items on the list but still need a psych eval. I met with the RD and was told how to eat and to write everthing down it is now April 12th and my next appointment is april 30th I think I have lost about 5 # of the 12# I need to lose but my scales are different than the scales at Dr. Simon's office. I couldn't get an appointment with Dr Hayes for my psych eval until june 2 and I tried other avenues but most others are booking out as far. This is probably better considering that I have 2 kids graduating from high school the end of June. I'll write more after my next appt.

After being diagnoses with Sleep Apnea and having my fasting glucose continue to
creep further and further up every year and not too mention swollen sore legs every night after work I decided to pursue weight loss surgery.   I , like many others who are obese,
have tried just about everything to lose weight.

5 DAYS TO GO >>>>>>>>
I sorted some cloths I have collected and put them in toats labeled with
sizes I have size 12-18's I'm sort of hoping these will just be some cloths for the way down and that I might actually end up a size 8 or 10 unsure if this will be reachable but I would like to be down to 140#'s.  We will see
what happens.

6 DAYS TO GO..................

Well I had my pre op testing on wednesday and everything seems to be all set I was pretty psyched I hadn't weighed in at the surgeon's since ? July and my weight was up only 1#.  They didn't say anything I am still down more than the 12# I was asked to lose.  I am nervous but also excited.  I made a journal/scrapbook on my first year after RNY to
record my weight each month and add photos of how I change.  I also attended a support group on wednesday evening and I have to say the couple who runs it and my friend Dee are awesome.  They got me lots of samples of shakes and other products that will be handy after WLS,
it was a very nice gesture.  I can't wait to begin my losers bench part of my journey on Thursday October 16th at 7:30am.  I will post more soon.

Well tomarrow its October and I think I have decided that it will start being the best month of the year for me.  16 DAYS TO GO.  How am I feeling well a little scared but knowing that this procedure will help me in ways I haven't been able to my self I am excited.  I thank god that I have been able to have this procedure.  I know a lot of folks out there are struggling to get it covered by insurance and I very thankful I wasn't one of them.
My pre op is the 8th I'll blog more after that.  PEACE!!!

september is here- 34 days till RNY!!!!!
on September 12, 2008 4:50 pm
Well I have 34 days to go.  Everyone around me is being pretty encouraging and they are excited for me.  I just read through the book Before and After which was a women's account of how it was for her before and after the surgery.  I am at peace with myself and I am committed to working with the new me with the new pouch and taking good care of myself.  I attended a support group last night- I definately think that these are a very important part of the process.  I have been to 2 support groups at this particular place and I have been to 4-5 support groups at another place.  I have learned  information there, here on OH,from friends who have had the procedure and two books that I bought and numerous articles I am very educated at this point and with any luck this will help me a lot with the whole process. I bought a little fan today to take to the hospital with me.  I will blog more when I get closer.

My Story

I have been overweight since I had my son 18 years ago.  I had gestational diabetes with my pregnancy and had a really difficult
time losing the 35# I had gained with my pregnancy.  I had my daughter 2 years later and weighed just over 200# when I had her and  pretty much stayed between 185-200# until I started college in 1993 and later started dating my husband in 1994.  For my wedding in 1996 I weighed 225#.  For the first few years of our marriage with adjustment to married life and a bad depression over trying to conceive a baby I would go between 220-240#.  My youngest son was born in 1998 and since then my weight has climbed as high as 266#.   Here is the list over these years of diets I've tried- low carb, low fat, cabbage soup, LA weight loss, weight watchers, Atkins, south beach, coconut diet, Curves diet   I have literally lost and regained the same 30# over and over countless
times but I have not been under 200# since 1995.  I have healed my life in countless other ways but have yet to complete my journey and that is to remove the insulation on the outside of my body that is holding me back.  I used to be quite physically fit in high school
I played field hockey, basketball, I was a cheerleader, and I played softball I was able to jog several miles without difficulty.   I would love to be able to jog without being short of breath.  That is one of my goals -physical fitness.  My hope is to get WLS and be 145# again and be healthy without elevated bloodsugar and without sleep apnea and chronic edema.
