I'm Lynette. I am 43 years old and I'm too fat. And finally, here in 2007, I am going to do something about it. No more fad diets, no gosh aweful lemonade concoctions or pills, nothing to sprinkle on my food. I am ready to become a loser. I can't say that I am a stress eater or carbaholic or anything in particular. I enjoy food, and being from the south,"what's the menu" is the start of every conversation about a family gathering. I love to cook and I cook well. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen. Oh, I won't stop cooking,I'll just cook healthier and eat less. Hey, I've already bottled home made chicken broth for the appropriate time. Campbell's got nothing on this southern girl.

Almost one year later...

It's been a journey worth taking! The right time, the right surgeon, the right procedure. The perfect storm! I am really not a blogger as you can see, but I thought it was about time for an update. Thankfully, I have not had any complications what so ever. Only dumped maybe 3 times. I just had my 1 year post op visit. My doctor was so excited for me. My labs were perfect, "you've added 25 years to your life".
I know that I don't excercise like I am supposed to...bad patient.
I took a 14 days cruise 3 most after my surgery and lost 10lbs on the cruise. Next month, just past 1 year post op, I will be taking a 7 day cruise and my goal will be to lose 10 lbs again. This time I believe it will be a little harder to do. I definitely don't want to gain anything.
I am thankful to all my OH friends and supporters and hope all is going as well for you too.
I am also thankful to have a new love in my life. It is fun to sit and watch Big Medicine and find out how it is all done. We grew up together so he knew me when I was very shy....NOT ANYMORE! I had a quiet crush since elementary school. I believe things happen in our lives when they are supposed to and not before.  God is good!

A Change Is About to Come
on August 20, 2007 8:28 pm
I haven't blogged for a while. Well the waiting and wishing is over. In a little more than 36 hours I'll be undergoing a life changing experience. I am excited beyond measure. I have an abundance of support from family, friends, coworkers and of course my OH family.
I should be an inpatient for about 30 hours. When I get home its back to protein shakes, water, and chewable vitamins and calcium. I have 3 weeks of liquids ahead of me. I won't complain. I'll be thankful that I am not eating a double beef burrito supreme and 3 hard shell tacos from Taco Bell.

Oh the waiting...

I've had all of my testing done and all is good. I have had my CPAP for about a month and I actually don't mind it. I sleep great and don't snore any longer.
I am sooo ready to get this party started. I know it will be hard work, but I am ready for change.
Everytime the phone rings in my office I hope its the doctor's office with a date. I am usually a very patient person, but this is different. I am read to move on over to the losers bench.

My Story

March 31,2007

I have been overweight all of my life. Chubby child. Plus size in high school and so on and so on. I too have tried pretty much every diet pill, diet and program. But for the first time I have decided to do something surgically. I had worked with patients post operatively,  who had bypass surgery. It wasn't pretty. So even though just 2 yrs ago, when the doctor suggested I look into Bariatric surgery, I said never, ever.
Well, it just hit me one day. And I decided to check into getting the gastric band. I went to a support meeting. I put my plan into action. However, when I went for my first visit with Dr. Greene, he explained that with my diabetes, I needed a faster weight loss. He in no way tried to change my mind, merely give me all my options. Before our meeting was over I had decided to have the RNY. I the attended one of their support groups.
My insurance is BCBS FEP, so I am not anticipating any problems with approval.

On the day of my visit, I weighed 374. I have been on the diet for 9 days. My BMI is 60.

I have all of my pre-surgery appointments scheduled. I have had my sleep study and now have to be fitted for CPAP. I only need my pulmonary screen, endoscopy and ekg. That's all next week, as is my nutritionist visit and exercise visit.
