Hey y'all, I'm Charlee and I'm so glad to be here. I live with my husband, John, in Northeast Arkansas. I'm a therapist, sometime jewelry maker and constant devourer of books. John's a journalist, philosophy fan and occasional gamer. I have an adult daughter, Katherine, and John & I have four fabulous furbabies: Chloe the Nervous, a terrier mix, Gracie & Molly, mostly Shih-Tzu littermates,  Marlowe the Ferocius Tabby and YumYum, a grouchy Siamese. Look me up on Facebook: Charlee Blankenship Griffith

I came very close to having an RnY about 10 years ago but chickened out. I guess I hadn't been miserable enough for long enough. I found OH last summer after having enough miserable, sick and tired and deciding to have WLS. I've been waiting for January to get on my husband's insurance (Anthem BCBS of KY) as it actually pays for WLS, unlike mine (AR BCBS), which pays $4000 total.

I was planning on RnY with Dr. John Baker in Litle Rock until I discovered the DS here on OH. There was a kerfluffle of posts on the main board about RnY vs. DS and naturally, I had to investigate. The more I read, the more I thought why in the world would I ever want the RnY when the DS makes so much more sense?? No one in AR does the DS - I think that's just bizarre. I'm waiting for insurance approval. I am SO ready to get this show on the road!

My Story

I remember not being fat. I swear I do! It was just so bloody long ago, it's like a distant dream I had about someone who looked like me but was slender and fit. Well, fit-ish. I don't think I've ever been fit. hah. Like most of you, I've been on evrey diet known, several more than once. A couple were somewhat successful but not for long. I always gained back more than I lost. Now, at 49, I weigh more than I ever have. My knees are shot to hell from injuries and my weight, I'm on meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression (don't remember ever NOT being depressed) and was diagnosed with Type II diabetes 10/09 and on meds for that. I. Have. Had. Enough.
