I am scheduled to have my surgery on April 11th. My weight 281 lbs and 5 foot 4. I just want to go below that 200 mark and for now that is my goal. I am having the surgery at St. Mary's and Elizabeth's Hospital in Louisville. Dr Vincent Lusco is doing the surgery and so far he has been nice and calming. The closer I get I am getting more stressed. I am having LAP BAND done so wish me luck.

Beginning of the Race of my Life

I am 51 years old . I have 2 wonderful kids boy 33 and girl  soon to be 25 that comes with  2 wonderful spouses. I have a blessing of a grandson that is 2 years old.  I was married for 25 years and things just didn't work out. I have a best friend named Walt that we do alot of things together. I am pretty much a loner other then that. I work in a psych hospital 40 + hours a week. The job can be very stressful. I eat on the run and alot of times its things that are not good for me. My favorite thing is Chunkey Monkey Ice Cream.  Well in the past year hard life is catching up with me and a bit of old age. Menopause has stressed me the last 2 years. I learned I had sleep apnea, arthritis in the knees, allergies and rashes unexplained. I also have irr. heart rates and asthma.

So I needed to make changes. I called St. Marys hospital and made an appointment to attend an seminar. I have studied this for a long time and debated the pro's and con's. I decided this was for me and I believe I can be committed. It all happened so quickly for me. I went to the seminar on Jan. 29. They called me on Monday to say that I did have insurance that was excepting Lapband now (I have Anthem) Luckily there was a cancelation and the Doctor could see me on Feb 25th. I saw the Nut. and the Psych the same day, Boy was I busy and determined! I had already gotten the PCP approval letter. OK after all of this it took a week for the coordinator to get the info to the insurance company.

I called the insurance company on March 8th (my birthday) and they told me over the phone I had been approved. The letter was sent out on the 9th. I sent my coordinator a faxed copy and they called me 2 days later with a date. I go for tests on Fri. March 30th, I see the Dr. Lusco on April 2nd and the surgery is April 11.

I am worried and scared but it I think it wouldn't be natural if I wasn't. I have met alot of people on here OB and I hope to meet many more. Thanks for all your encouraging words

Tuesday April 10, 2007

Tomorrow is the big day for me the wait will be over. I begin my pre diet last Tues and I have lost over 10lbs. It is a shame and I know it that I could not continue doing that on my own without the surgery but I am realistic and after many trials I have failed. I weighed the most I had ever weighed Fri. April 6th and that was 281lbs I am now down to 270lbs. I still have doubts and I am scared but I am committed to tackling this with my best effort and hope that God will help me as well as my friends.

SURGERY DAY APRIL 11th 2007 (to be continued)

Surgery went very well. No complications except they couldn't find a vein for my IV but finally the doctor found one. I am home from the hospital and very sore.

April 14th 3 days after surgery

I am so sore and I am swollen. I have alot of pain in the middle of my chest. I am going through the doubts today and thinking thoughts about this being a mistake. But I am gonna hang in there. I have all teh questions. When will the pain go away or will I have this bloating and hurt in my chest every time I eat or drink? Will I be deprived and eating liquids all my life? I know I know .. I have'nt given it time yet.
