Dear Claire, By now you will be a new Bandy just across the Tasman from me! I sure hope your op went well and you are feeling ok. Just remember the best way to release trapped gas and ease the shoulder type pain is too raise your arms above your hed and lower them up and down, wave them around etc it will help get you comfortable if suffering. PM me anytime I am here for you Hon and in the right time zone too! Karen

I have sort of done things the wrong way around.......
I am 30, a nurse and live in Sydney. I have PCOS and bad insuln resistence. Overweight all of my life, I finally lost 30kg (65lbs) when I was 26 and had a tummy tuck. I looked and felt great! But 2 years of living in London combined with the sudden death of both of my parents has seen me put all the weight back on. So....... off for a lap band I go!

New Doctor....
on November 17, 2008 3:45 pm
I have had a very busy few months. We went to Europe for a month (had a great time- with no stuck episodes) then was very busy with university and general family mayhem. My wieght loss had been slow, not helped of course by my love of all things sweet. I was feeling unsupported by my surgeon (I had not seen him since surgery) as he has a junior doctor who does his 'fills'. Getting a time spot for a fill was an ordeal. They are done in a busy pathology clinic under xray, and only done on one morning a week! Even if you book for the first appt, someone can push infront of you by arriving before you- even if their appt is not until lunchtime!!!

The last straw was when the doctor doing my fill exclaimed "...Oh, What happened???" when I had only lost 8lbs in 3 months!! I felt really down about this, not that she asked any followup questions, what was I eating, was I exercising etc etc. Her response was an aggressive fill of 1cc. which almost completely blocked my stoma!

I struggled at home for 2 days but could barely manage hot water. So when I phoned back to organise an emergency unfill both my doctors were away. I was given an appt at another clinic, the Sydney Institute of Obesity Surgery..... and they are WONDERFUL. They are so so so supportive, and insist on seeing all of their bansters once a month, wether or not they need a fill so they can keep on top of plateau's or bad eating habits. They do fills from 9-5 all week long, and give you 8 NUT appts. and they have a support group once a month. They are fantastic. Have I said that enough?? My weight loss has restarted and I am feeling very happy about my band.

Fill 1 Fill 2 Fill 3 .....
on June 16, 2008 4:25 am
Slowly but surely the scales are heading south.

My first fill didn't make much of  difference to my restriction so I had another one ... 1.3ml added

And today I had my third fill. Making a total of 6.6ml in my 10ml band. I am still on liquids but they are moving down slowly...

I am happy with my 12kg weight loss people are really starting to notice. It is great to be able to get back into some of my old clothes

First Fill
on May 19, 2008 2:24 am
Finally.........

My post op journey has been a smooth one. I have healed really well as all foods have gone down without any trouble... which leads me to by first problem! Slowly but surely am appetite has returned and I have been eating all sorts of foods in all sorts of quantities!

I am very pleased to have had my first fill today. Like everyone I was very nervous but it was a piece of cake. The Dr used a local anesthetic an althoughit felt a bit strange, my fill didnt hurt at all. Turns out I already had 2mls in my band

So now I have 4ml in a 10ml band
Roll on weight loss!!!

Two weeks out
on April 26, 2008 12:17 am
Thank heavens for mushies!!!
I had really had enough of soup! My post op period was uneventful and I am doing really well. Have had some chocolate though, so I can see that I really need to get my head around this 'new lifestyle' a bit more. My jeans ae falling down, even with my belt on, so although the scales are a bit stubborn, something is happening. Thanks to all who have supported me.
