Surgeon Testimonial

Willie Melvin, M.D.
I first met Dr. Melvin in March 2011. He has the best disposition and immediately put me at ease. My surgery was on Monday Dec. 5th at 7:30. The entire staff was excellent. When they wheeled me into the OR Dr. Melvin was the first person I saw and he held my hand assuring me that I would be fine. I would strongly recommend anyone looking to have surgery to look into Vanderbilt Weight Loss Clinic and the best surgeon Dr. Willie Melvin.

My dinner tonight
on January 28, 2012 7:29 pm
Tonight for dinner I decided it was time for me to try something different. Since having my one month check up I was released with a full diet but I was still skeptical because I thought surely I wasn't ready. So I had been craving a salad and tonight on my way home from my mom's house I stopped at Subway and got a black forest ham salad. Oh how yummy that salad was to my new tummy!!! I had spinach, lettuce, black olives, pickles, red onions cucumbers, black forest ham, tomatoes, oil and vinegar. I came home and boiled an egg and cut that on top as well for protein. I had some fat free ranch dressing but with the vinegar and oil and the pickles no salad dressing was needed. I was only able to eat a little bit but what I was able to eat was scrump-dilly-ocious. I chewed and chewed and so far so good. I think I might have the hang of this new stomach and I'm glad. I never thought I would be able top eat a salad without cheese, bacon bits, croutons and the other not so healthy salad fixings and dripping with ranch dressing but the one I had tonight was great. I haven't weighed since my last doctor visit and I'm kinda scared to so I think I'll just wait until my next doctor visit...until then losers...see ya on the losers bench...

Great 1 month doctor's visit!!!
on January 17, 2012 4:02 pm
Soooo I had my 1 month appt today and all is well. Well its actually a little bit over a month but who's counting. Anywho I got there and of course they checked my vitals and my oxygen levels were at 100% (I had my oxygen on of course) my blood pressure was 126/85 and my temp was a perfect 98.6. Now on to the good stuff...I step on the scale and I'm almost holding my breath and then I hear the beep and I look down and the number I saw almost made me faint. I weighed in at 518 lbs and my BMI was 88. I can't believe it!!!! Everybody in the office was so happy for me. So let me recap the weight. When I went to my first visit I weighed in at 589 with a BMI of 101.1, November 15th my pre op appt I was 574 with a BMI of 98, surgery day Dec. 5th I was still 574, Dec. 13th 1 week after surgery I was 561.1 and today January 17th I weighed 518 and my BMI is 88. I absolutely can't believe it!!! 19 more pounds and I will no longer weigh 500 plus pounds. I am so excited about this I almost can't stand myself!!!!! I also talked to the NUT about my food issues and she told me to continue to take it slow and chew chew chew. My surgeon said everything sounded and looked okay so I am able to swallow small pills and I'm now on a full diet. The NUT said I could try a salad but I think I'm gonna hold off on that right now. Well folks this is about all I can stand of myself today I'm gonna go eat some shrimp and broccoli. Cross your fingers that it stays down...until next time...and as always see ya on the losers bench

What is going on?!?!?!?!?!
on January 15, 2012 12:13 pm
Well here it is the 15th day into the new year and I CAN'T EAT.....Everything that I put in my mouth hits my pouch like a ton of bricks and after taking on or two bites of food I can't eat anymore. I am surviving by drinking protein shakes and eating sugar free popsicles and jello and drinking propel water and crystal light. Its the texture of food that is doing me in. My mom is worried and she says since I've had surgery she doubts that I've eaten enough food to equal a cup. She's exaggerating but I really haven't had too much to eat. Well I have my 1 month check up on Tuesday and I'll talk to my nutritionist then. I know in order to lose weight I have to eat so I will try again today. Who'd a thunk it me not being able to eat.....oh well....
