Surgeon Testimonial

Wai Leung, M.D.
I really enjoyed my initial visit, the ladies are great and Dr. Leung has a great sense of humour. He's very thorough and doesn't mince words.

4 weeks post op
on July 20, 2008 8:26 pm
I still haven't lost any more weight, I have however gone down 2 sizes in pants. I should take my measurements.
I'm on thick food, like cottage cheese, some chicken and fish if I chew it really good. I went back to the Dr on Friday cause we did some bloodwork last week and found that my potassium and magnesium are low so we're going to do more bloods this week. Dr also wants me to make sure that I'm getting some Vitamin K as I'm bruising pretty bad and they're hanging around for weeks. He just can't believe that my surgeon wanted me to stay on clear fliuds for six weeks. Maybe if I just stayed home the whole time but not when I'm trying to be active.

3 weeks post op
on July 13, 2008 4:13 pm

So it's been 3 weeks now and I haven't lost anything in the last week dispite only taking in clear liquids. I'm not too worried about it, I think it's just my body adjusting to me taking in less than 100 calories a day.

I saw my GP on Friday and he was appalled that I was still on the clear diet. My blood pressure was up and I'm still having the light headedness. He took some bloodwork and told me to go on the full fluids. He want's me to try to get up to 1000 calories a day. I'm not sure how I'm going to do that but we'll see.

I'm really bad for not having planned meal times or even real meals. I just have my waters and then broth twice a day. I'm going to try to have planned 'meal' times and see if that helps.

I'm definatly losing inches though. Feels good!

2 Weeks Post Op
on July 5, 2008 1:36 pm
Yesterday was my 2 week bandiversary and I've lost 21 lbs. Everything seems to be falling in place now. I'm very aware of what I can and can not put into my mouth. I think about the textures of food all the time. What I'll be able to eat when and the value the food is to my body. I don't miss food as much now, (for now) and I'm really seeing changes to my body and especially my face. Lots of people are complementing on how different I look already except for the few that are saying that I look drawn and tired. I'm finally getting some energy and actually rode my bike for 10 mins this morning. I know it's not much but it's something.

A couple of things that I'm glad I did pre op was to make up some soup and freeze the broth into icecubes. I then put the cubes into marked freezer bags. Each icecube is about 1 oz so I just grab a couple and throw them in the microwave for 1min. We even ordered chinese food as my last meal and I got to freeze the broth from the won ton soup, it's a really nice treat.

One week and Melting
on June 29, 2008 7:34 am
Weighed in yesterday and I'm down 14.8lbs in 7 days!!. My surgeon's diet plan is much different than most out there. I didn't have to do a pre op diet and he wants me to stay on clear fluids for a month much to the disagreement of my nutritionist. She wants me to start full fluids after a week.
It's nice to see the  weight coming off so fast but there's so many other factors to think of. If I lose too fast it won't give my skin time to adjust and tighten up, I'm already tired and my head is 'swimmy', and it seriously can't be healthy to lose this fast.
I wish we had a clear protein drink up here like the Isopure that they have in the US. I'm only about 10 minutes to the border and about an hours drive to Bellis fair Mall in Washington. I'm really thinking of getting my passport and heading south for a shopping trip.

Monday Morning, 6 lbs lighter
on June 23, 2008 7:22 am

I didn't take my weight right before surgery, the last weight I had was 252lbs. I weighed myself Saturday morning (24 hours post op) and I was 253.2, Yesterday I was 248.9 and today I'm 247.2 so that's 6lbs in 3 days. Not bad I'd say. I didn't have to do a pre op diet but Dr Leung wants me to be on clear fluids for about a month while I heal, then I can go to full fluids and so on.
I've been drinking lots of water (mostly the zero calorie flavoured stuff) and I had a taste of some Weay Gourmet Protien powder mixed with water, and it tastes fantastic, it's a really light powder so mixes really well. I put it in my Magic Bullet so it frothed up nicely. I'll keep that for when I go onto the full fluids though. It's fairly priced and I got it at London Drugs though I heard that you can get it cheaper from Wal-Mart.
The dietition wants me to do clear fluids for one week then on to full fluids but I'll try to follow Dr Leungs advice for as long as I can.

My Story

I think I was pretty lucky to have been thin as a child and teenager. I was very popular in my teens and not the nice person that I am now. Sometimes I think that it's my punishment to have ended up fat. I admit, I deserve it! But I've spent my life making up for it. Karma can be so cruel! Now, you'd probably say that I'm the nicest person you know. I work hard, raised my mom (who passed 11 years ago) raised my kids, and now it's my turn baby! The kids are on their own, we've help each of them get their own home, we're helping the son get through university and now we got me banded!

Look out world here I come!!!! LOL  *high fives all round*
