Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have been overweight since the age of 5, and by the time I hit high school, I weighed over 200 pounds. I must say though, I didn't have such a tough time of it back then. I may have been the butt of an occasional joke or rude remark, but I was never bullied. And although I was never really happy with my appearance, it wasn't so bad. But then came college. I was free from my mother's ever-watchful eye, and enjoying all the typical college foods: pizza, burgers, junk food, etc. My Freshman 15 ending up more like a Freshmen 50. Followed immediately by a Sophomore 50. By the time I graduated, I had hypertension, depression, constant pain, and was at my all time highest weight: 360. I've tried every diet in the book, and I know I can't lose...

A Pleasant Surprise
on February 25, 2012 3:20 pm
One of the worst places to be fat is in a dressing room. You go in with an armful of clothes and hope that something - please something - will fit. Nothing usually does. So you give your rejects to the attendant, and leave the store. Since, after all, those too-tight clothes were the largest size that they offer.

However, last Monday I received a pleasant surprise. I was three weeks post-op, down 60 pounds from my highest weight, and in dire need of some pants. I used to be a size 30, but I was hoping, after losing the weight, to be a size 26. Then, in typical fatty shopping fashion, the store didn't go up to size 26. The largest pants were 24s. So I thought, "What the heck? The sales are great, I might as well give it a try."

And what d'ya know - success! Not only did the 24s fit, they were a little baggy! I almost could have gotten away with a 22.

I'm hoping that the next time I buy pants in a couple months, I'll be able to try on 18s, or maybe even 16s!

My Story

I've tried every diet in the book, and I know I can't lose the weight on my own. So I'll be going into surgery for my Sleeve Gastrectomy on 1/27/12. Wish me luck!
