Surgeon Testimonial

Phillip Hornbostel, M.D.
Dr. Hornbostel was very informative about the operation. He took his time in explaining the proceedure as well as answering all my questions. The office staff was very polite and willing to help. They were very sensitive to my needs as an obese patient. I look forward to my surgery and I am very confident in my desicion to have Dr. Hornbostel as my surgeon.

172 pounds gone, only 46 more pounds to go
on November 6, 2008 8:36 am
It's hard to believe that I have less then 50 pounds to lose before I reach my goal weight of 135.  It's only been 10 months it has taken me a lot less time to lose my weight then I expected.  It hasn't been easy but it's been an experience I would never trade for anything.

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!
on September 22, 2008 3:09 pm
I got up this morning and I weighed and I had to do it 4 different times before I could believe what the numbers on the scale were.  198 lbs, I was finally out of the 200's.  I remember how I felt when I got out of the 300's but I only had 52 pounds to lose to do that.  I had an additional 100 pounds to lose in order to get out of the 200's so this is a milestone for me.  To date I have lost 154 pounds in 8 months so I only have 63 more pounds to go before I reach my goal weight of 135 lbs.  I hope that by my surgery anniversary date of 1/21/09 I will reach my goal but if not that's ok too I will just keep working at it until I get there.

Much needed update on me!
on August 25, 2008 8:23 pm
It's been 7 months since my surgery and to date I have lost 137 pounds!  I started at 352 pounds and now at 215.  I can't wait to get out of the 200's I keep telling myself, "only 15 more pounds to go".

I need to take some more pics and update my photo but haven't done that yet.  I'm thinking maybe I will do that this week?

Things are going well for me.  I have so much more energy.  I can now do things I haven't been able to do in 20 yrs so that's exciting.  I also love the fact that I can get into much smaller clothes and I'm hoping that soon I will no longer have to buy plus size clothes and I'm getting close to that goal.  7 months ago I wore a 4x now I wear 1x or XL.  I love the new clothes I have been buying, I have been giving my larger clothes to family members which they enjoy.  I have to start buying winter clothes because I do not have any winter clothes that are going to fit me.  All the winter things I have are 3x-4x and I would swim in those!

One of the things that I don't like as a result of my surgery is my hair loss.  Every day I lose hair by brushing or washing it and it's getting very thin so I'm really worried about that I don't want to go bald!  LOL....  I know I should be doing more protein maybe that would help?

I got a new job working with special needs kids in the school.  I would have never been able to do this job last year at my highest weight and coborbidities.  I love my job it can be a bit challenging at times but over all I really enjoy it.

More Wow moments!
on June 30, 2008 10:16 am
It's been a while since I have posted here so I thought I would give and update.

Well, to date I have lost 117 lbs in 5 months so I'm pretty happy with that.  I just came off a 2 week stall though I think my body was just trying to catch up with itself?  I hope to continue losing like I have been I still have at least 88 pounds to go unless I decide I want to lose more!

I went shopping the other day needed some black pants for my new job and I found a few.  I also found a cute pair of burgandy dress slacks but they were a size 18.  Well, I didn't think I could wear an 18 yet but they were cheap so I got them knowing that soon I would be able to get in them.  Got home and for fun decided to try them on and boy was I amazed!  They fit I could button and zip them now grant it they were tight in areas so they didn't look that great on me just yet but it was a nice feeling to know that I could button and zip them.  I haven't wore an 18 in like 20 yrs!

Another wow moment.... Last night my best friend bought me a cute dog shirt at Cracker Barrel on sale.  It was long sleeved so I thought an XL would be good I should be able to wear that by this fall since I'm now wearing a 1X-2X.  I tried that on this morning just for fun and it almost fits (if it wasn't for my big hips!).  Maybe I should have gotten a L instead cause by fall the XL may be too big....(lets hope)

I have been working out at the YMCA a lot and riding my bike, walking the dogs, and going to the pool.  I have so much more energy then I did before surgery it's amazing!  I'm on the go all the time never wanting to stay at home.  It's like I finally have my life back and I'm so thankful.....

I moved to Wichita KS a little over a month ago and I really like it here but I can't seem to find a good support group except the one that wants $800 for you to come which is horrible I think it's just another way for them to get more money from you.  I never had to pay for a support group in KC!

I have been doing a lot of cooking and finding new recipes that I can make weight loss surgery friendly.  I love to cook still even though I really can't eat much of it.  My best friend and roommate really enjoys my cooking and is glad that I like to cook.  I am finding that I really like fresh and organic things and use them as much as possible even though they are more expensive they are better for you.  I have enjoyed going to the farmers market every Sat. morning for the last several weeks more and more vendors are bringing fresh Kansas grown veggies and fruit which I love.

The last few months of my journey have just been amazing and fun.  I love giving away my old (FAT) clothes to my family other then my closet which was over flowing is now down to only a few things that actually fit!  I need new clothes that fit but it's fun going down in sizes and sharing what you do have with others.

I'm really looking forward to the coming months and my continued journey.  I will keep you all informed as much as I can.

Life is GOOD!

My Reward
on April 2, 2008 12:32 pm
I was going to wait until I lost a little more weight but decided that I wanted it now!  I bought me a new Trek hybird bike yesterday.  I get it Friday cause they didn't have the color I wanted so they ordered it for me.  I am so excited I have always loved to ride bikes but when I put on a lot of weight I wouldn't ride any more because I knew people would be making fun of me.  Now that I have lost 72 pounds and still lossing I went shopping this last weekend and found the bike I wanted.  Now I can get some more exercise in and take the dogs for a ride in the little trailer that I'm going to get for them that hooks on the back of your bike it's kind of like those kid trailers you see that holds like 2 kids?  I have to order this for my puppies so it might be a while before they will be able to ride with me.  I even got my best friend on a bike and she bought one just like mine (different color) but she hadn't been on a bike since she was 13 and fell off and broke her leg.
