I made it to my goal!
on May 30, 2011 12:31 am
After this long and hard road, I have finally made it to my goal weight. I was so excited when I stepped on the scale. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would get to this point. Almost a year and a half later, I feel wonderful and can actually say that I LOVE myself. And the best part of this journey, is that I did this all for ME!

6 months down..... many more to go
on July 25, 2010 1:30 pm
On July 21st, I had my 6 month post op visit with Dr P. He was so pleased with my progress. He even gave me a hug and joked with me that the tank top and shorts I was wearing looked a little big on me. He told me that I needed a smaller size   All my labs came back looking very good. So now I see him again in January for my 1 year anniversary. Wow, does that sound weird lol. These past 6 months have been hard, especially with the complications I had shortly after surgery. But I would do this journey again in a heartbeat. I love that I have all this energy now and I have my life back. I even have my family and a friend on my "bandwagon". My mom and my friend Tonya have been exercising together with me every day. Since MY surgery, mom and Tonya have lost about 30 lbs each. That is awesome!  I am so blessed to have the support at home. They all have no idea what that means to me.

As of today, I have lost 100 lbs. I am so proud of myself and it was hard. But all that I have been through, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Got my labs back :)
on June 17, 2010 1:00 pm
Had some labs done 2 days ago and they came back lookin good. I was so worried that they would be all messed up in some way or another. But all my "bad" numbers before surgery are dropping to the normal range and all the "good" numbers used to be too low are now rising to a good level. I am so happy! Plus I weighed myself this morning and lost another 2 lbs. So in 3 more lbs, I will have then lost 100 lbs total!!! Holy crap, I almost cant believe it. It makes everything that I have been through since January all worth it!

leave it to me to be a rare case lol
on March 30, 2010 1:43 am
Well I am finally feeling better after 3 weeks of hell. Last week I spent most of my time in the hospital. My Dr thought that I had a restriction and needed an EGD. So he did one, and there was nothing wrong with my openings. So I stayed in the hospital again for another night for dehydration. I was dry heaving and vomiting at least 6-8 times a day already. I was so sick of being sick. I was ready to give up. So my Dr did some consulting with some other Dr's and found out what my problem was. My new stomach and old stomach were fighting on who was the dominate one. Dr said this is very rare after GB, but leave it to me to be different. Everything I ate or drank was being rejected by my body. So now I am on some really strong nausea meds and some other stuff to calm down my new tummy. And thank God everything is going very well for me now. I will be fine if I never see a hospital ever again! My arms and hands are still really bruised from all the IV's they put in. I was so dehydrated that my veins would shut down, then they would have to replace the IV's. I am just so happy to be back home and doing lots better. Thanks for all the prayers and words of concern. It was very much appreciated.

another road to travel....
on March 24, 2010 11:33 pm
After being in the hospital from dehydration over this past weekend, finally got in to see my Dr today. He thinks I have a restriction and am going in tomorrow for a dilation. I am sooooo hoping that this is the problem and I can start feeling better soon. Keep me in your prayers.

Why am I the only one feeling this way?
on March 14, 2010 5:52 pm
For the past 2 weeks or more, I have felt so crappy. I am constantly dry heaving and having a mega gag reflex. I wake up in the morning and I have a nasty taste in my mouth and that's when the vomiting starts. I am taking my Prevacid everyday to calm down my tummy. Most days I can't even keep my vitamins down. I feel like I am dying slowly. I can at least keep water down, but that's it. I felt better the first week after surgery than I do now at 8 weeks out. My surgeon doesn't seem to care and my PCP is trying his best to get me through this. I guess I just needed to vent to anyone that will listen.  I am hoping this is just a phase that I am going through and it will pass soon. I have no energy to do anything. Why does everyone else say they feel so great and doesn't regret the surgery? Right now, I wish I had never had this damn surgery!

I feel like crap
on February 15, 2010 1:26 am
My allergies have kicked in for some reason. Now for the last day and tonight, when my sinuses drain it gives me a tummy ache. It is getting so bad that the nausea is making me vomit. I am so sick of this already! I am taking some allergy meds (liquid) the doc said I can take, that helps some but not all the time. I know it may sound like I am 'sitting on the pitty pot" but I just needed to get this off my chest. Pray for me that things start getting better for me.

2 weeks post-op......
on February 4, 2010 12:04 am
Had my 2 week post-op appointment today. Everything is moving along good. I have now graduated up to pureed foods! Yahoooooo. I am so excited. So tonight I had 1/4 c. pureed veggies and 2 oz. of mushed up baked fish. Can't believe that I could not even finish that much. But it was yummy. Incisions are healing well. Still have some blisters on my tummy from the tape that held the bandages on. I told the hospital that I was allergic to latex tape and that's what they used on me. Duh! By the time I noticed it was to late. But that is on the mend now too. Just itches like crazy.  They told me that since the day of surgery to now, I have lost 21 lbs. of body fat and 10 lbs of water weight. Holy Cow! That's a lot.  I am on the right track for I think the first time in my life.

I am so sick of liquids!
on January 30, 2010 11:46 pm
I am doing good, really getting sick of liquids. After 2 weeks of having nothing but SF Popsicles, SF puddings, and creamed soups, I just want to gag already. I only "eat" them because I have to.  I miss the crunchy textures in my mouth. What I wouldn't give to crunch down on a carrot or something. But I don't, because I know better. My incisions are healing pretty good. One of the cuts where one of the drains was got a little infected. But considering I had 2 different nurses and then the doctor pick around in it to get the stitch out, doesn't shock me it got a little nasty looking. So now I am on antibiotics too. Just what I needed was another drug to take. One good thing Is that I have not taken any pain meds since the 24th. Just don't need them anymore. Yahoo!

My Story

My name is Vicki. I live in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in Arizona. I have struggled with my weight since I was about 10 years old. I come from a big family and my parents and grandparents are/were overweight. I have tried all the diets with some temporary success, but put the weight back on, and then some.  My weight really shot up and got out of control when I started driving semi, over the road. I ate crappy truck stop food and hardly exercised at all.  It was a tough decision to go through WLS. But I am too young to be on all the medications that I take daily. I have high blood pressure, insulin resistance, PCOS, and high triglycerides. I have modest goals, but I know that I have a long road ahead of me. I can do this!!
