Surgeon Testimonial

Benjamin Schneider
I really liked Dr. Schneider. He presented at the first information session I attended and I really liked his personality and he had the type of experience I was looking for. He also had a great bedside manner which is just as important to me as good surgical skills. Overall I had no complications except for some muscle stitch pain that is hanging on. He says he does tight muscle stitches to prevent hernias that sometimes bother people. The pain is driving me crazy but if it prevents a hernia and another surgery down the road, it is worth it. And not all of his patients have as much pain as I am having. Overall I have been very pleased with him and his team and would definitely recommend him to anyone else considering this surgery in the Boston area.rnrnThe whole process at BIDMC is multidisciplinary and I have had a great experience with everyone so far, from the surgeon to his fellows to the nutritionist and the nurses I had immediately post-op. They really emphasize aftercare and have a very structured approach. Before surgery you even have to sign a contract stating that you will come to all follow-up appointments. In my opinion that is a positive thing, and I think that BIDMC really has the right idea about how to treat their patients.

10 months and chugging along....
posted on 9/21/08 7:44 am
So my weight is hovering in the upper 150s.  Today I weighed in at 157.4.  I just want to get down to 155 and join the century club already!  I have been going up and down a pound or two per week lately but overall I am slightly down.  I lost 3 pounds last month and 3.4 this month, so I hope things are stilll moving along.  I am happy with the number on the scale and happy with the size I am wearing (last night I bought my first size 6!!!!) but I can't quite say I am happy with my body.  Oh well, I am a hell of a lot happier than I was 97 pounds heavier regardless of how wrinkly and deflated my breasts are and how squishy my stomach is.  I have been really really good at the gym lately and doing all sorts of weight training which I was never able to get into before now.  Even though I only lost 3.4 pounds this month I am down another 2 inches in my waist for a total of 18 inches.  That is just insane.  I still feel like my waist is gigantic, I can't even fathom that it was 18 inches bigger at one point.  I am definitely going to need another shopping spree before it gets colder.  I made it through the summer with buying various pieces along the way but now I have absolutely zero cold weather clothes in my size.  It's nice to need smaller clothes, but getting expensive!!!

I got the results back from my cardiac tests and it turns out I am having premature ventricular contractions (PVCs).  My doctor said these can occur even though everything else is healthy and that appears to be the case for me, but they are occurring very very frequently (several per minute throughout the day).  Common causes are stimulants, electrolyte imbalances and anxiety.  My stimulant intake is about 1 or 2 diet sodas per week and my electrolytes tested fine so I know this is probably caused by anxiety.  I was dating this guy I work with for a while, we became semi serious, then I found out he lied to me about something major.  We didn't talk for a little while but now we have been talking again and he has been the one training me at the gym.  All the feelings are still there and stronger than ever and every day I struggle with the question of can I give him another chance or not and can I believe the things he is telling me.  I think about him every second I am awake and dream about him every night.  I am a mess when it comes to matters of the heart, I can't help but let them consume me and I know this is causing so much anxiety for me.  Plus I have to see him every day at work which makes things a million times worse.  He has been great for the past 6 weeks we have been talking again and saying and doing everything right but I can't help but doubt everything that comes out of his mouth.  So I don't think it is a coincidence that my heart palpitations started right around the time we started talking again.  But now what to do about it??? :(
