Surgeon Testimonial

Uretz J. Oliphant, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Oliphant was a neutral one. He answered my questions and explained my procedure to me. By the second time I saw him, I knew I liked him. He was very professional, and takes his job VERY seriously, but you could tell he had a sense of humor as well. I also attended a bariatric seminar when he spoke. He is very passionate about what he does and I couldn't be more pleased with the care I received as a patient of Dr. Oliphant and his staff. He answers all questions and concerns and you can tell he GENUINELY cares about ALL of his patients. I felt I was in GREAT hands through my entire procedure and hospital stay. His staff is amazing as well. They NEVER forget to return a call and they all care about patients as well. They didn't hesitate to answer any questions I had, big or small. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking into bariatric surgery.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have always been on the larger side. Taller and heavier than any of my friends, or when I was younger my classmates. I always felt like I towered over them and definitely stood out the crowd. I was called their "fat" friend by people that didn't know my name. I hate to clothes shop. I always have. I hate that just because you need a plus size the only things you can find have HUGE flowers or tweety birds on them :( I am in my 20's. I like to be fashionable just as well as a skinny person, but it is MUCH harder to find anything. Esp if you are on a budget. I deal with constant feet, ankle, knee, and lower back pain. I have no energy. I have a hard time keeping up with work, school, housework, and my kids. Thank goodness my hubby is a HUGE help to...

Nervous about pre-op diet
on December 24, 2011 12:34 pm
I am getting my tentative surgery date next week, and I was told I have to be on the pre-op diet for 2 weeks before surgery. I am terrified. That is where I have failed diets in the past. I do really well at eating in moderation, then after a few days, I am STARVING and make up for food I feel I "lost" :( I am nervous, but I know I CAN do this!

My Story

Hello, My name is Kayla. I am currentlly in the process of VSG. I am to be sleeved 02/02/12! I have always been a bigger person. I am 5'10" and the lowest I remember being was my senior year in H.S. at 187. I am now a whopping 289! A year ago, my pcp mentioned Bariatric Surgery to me and I thought, NO WAY. It isn't for me. But a year later and still 289 (I maintain!), here I am! About 6 months after that visit, I started rethinking the idea. My husband and I attended a support group for bariatric surgery patients and my eyes were opened. This IS for me! I CAN do this! My first realistic goal is to get to my pre-pregnancy weight from my second child (240 lbs!) and go from there! (I would like my ending goal to be about 165 or so, but I am setting small starting goals!) I am married with 2 wonderful children that keep me VERY busy. I am losing energy to keep up with them and just don't feel "good" overall. I can't wait until someone tells me how nice I look without the dreaded "You have such a pretty face!", as if the rest of me is disgusting! Anything else, just ask!
