Single Digits!
on December 10, 2009 6:33 pm
OK, you guys may have read this already but I bought a size 8!  I wore the pants that aren't as stretchy as the jeans today to school and they were not bad until I ate...then they got a little tight but that's ok, right?

The best part about this is one of my goals was to be able to shop in my mom's closet and now I'm giving her all of my "too big" clothes...14s and 12s!!!  It's amazing!!!

At Thankgiving mom and I were talking about sharing clothes and my sister, who really wanted the surgery but can't because of insurance issues, said "Ya'll make me sick" not in a nasty way but just stating it.  My mom started crying.  My sister really has been great.  I expected really bad attitude but it hasn't been that way at all so far.

Well, Christmas is coming and Saturday I get to see family that I haven't seen in a while - the part of the family that's very critical of everything and everyone.  Can't wait to see how they react.

Here's to a better Christmas this year than last...a healthier Christmas!

I have a date!!!
on January 9, 2009 3:43 pm
My date for surgery is January 30th.  I'm very excited but getting a little nervous, mostly because of the liquid diet.  I'm getting my mind ready by telling myself that I will be successful because I have to.  Only 3 weeks away!  Wow!  And my sister who is a nurse and 4 hrs away doesn't have to work and will be coming down that weekend.  I'm so fortunate to have so many folks to support me.

Decision visit scheduled!
on December 4, 2008 5:23 pm
Well, my decision visit has been scheduled for Dec. 23.  I'm so excited!  That means I may actually get my surgery before the end of January which would be great!  I finished all of my appointments before Thanksgiving and was getting a little concerned because I tried to call to set up my decision appointment but all of my notes hadn't come in yet.  They said they would call me and just did today (2 weeks later).

Letter
on October 15, 2008 2:59 pm
I received my letter with appoinment dates Friday.  I go Nov 3 for upper GI, lab work and to see the anesthetist and nutritionist.  On Nov 20 I go to see the psychologist.  I am a little concerned because I have spoken to some folks who have been to this psychologist and they said that she rarely lets you through with one visit.  I would really like to do this during Christmas break because of taking time off.  With 2 small kids I never am able to accrue any sick leave and I'm not allowed to take vacation leave when the students are in school.  Oh, well...I guess we'll see how this goes...

First Meeting with Surgeon
on September 27, 2008 2:30 pm
I met with my surgeon on Thursday after going to the seminar on Wednesday.  I really like him.  Seems to be very capable and knowledgable.  I went in thinking that I would do Lap-Band but now I'm not sure.  He said to get to the weight I want to get to (140-150) I would need to do GBP.  I thought that with the Lap-Band and losing it slower I would be able to control the amount of loose skin.  He said that was a common myth about Lap-Band and that it simply wasn't true.  Don't know what I'm going to do yet but I'm glad that I've found this website to help me decide.

My Story

I have been overweight my entire life.  I tell people that I started out 10lb. 7 oz. and kept growing.  I don't remember being below 160lb. or less than a size 16 (and this was in high school).  Then in college I gained the freshman 20 instead of the freshman 10.  After being married for about 3 years we started trying for kids which put on another 20.  Pragnancy took me to 250 but then I lost 25 afterward.  Another pregnancy and I was up to 250 again but then lost the 25.  The past three years have been great but stressful.  I am a teacher and have in the past three year gained National Board Certification and a Master's degree (in fact, this just came in the mail today!!!) along with those extra 25 lbs.  So here I am back at 250 and not happy.  I figured now that my professional life is in order it's time to work on me personally.  I want to be healthier for my husband and kids.  I want to want to do things with them.  I want my girls to look at me and be proud that I am just like their friends' moms.  But I also want to know that I can go into any store I want without fear of the store clerks looking at me like I didn't belong and pull something off the rack and walk in the dressing room with it and have it actually fit.  I just think the feeling that comes with trying something on that doesn't have a W behind the size will be amazing.
