So here I am post op...gonna share my experience.
on July 16, 2008 4:29 pm

I know that it's hard to hear negative things and we all want to hear only positive things...I also think that we get looped into writing what people want to hear even if it's not as accurate as it should be.
I am telling my experience of ME! Not those before or after, this is MY experience and if you choose to read it you should know that it's not all cherries.

I had surgery with Dr. Alvarez as I'm sure you would know by now.  He and Dr. Gabriel were very nice and I would recomend them to anyone.  My ONLY problem with Dr. A. is that he is very VERY conservative in his post op diet. (more later)
If I could pluck up Dr. A., Dr. G., Rosie and Pricilla and Susan and plop them down in a decent hospital I would in a heart beat.
I read from most of the feedback on Dr. A's feedback that though this hospital was very dated it was kept very very clean.  My take on that is somewhat sarcastic at this point cuz I'd LOVE to know where the clean was when I was there?!
My original bed (rm 27) was so sloped in the butt area I could hardly sit in it, I requested a new room for after surgery and was put in a nicer (older but better) room.  The paint was chipping off walls, there was "stuff" in corners and baseboard area of floors, there was NO soap in the rooms that was anitbacterial (they did provide little round soaps)  This was a HUGE issue with me as there was also NO hand sanitizer any where in the place.  Nurses wore NO gloves for procedures.
I showered in a shower that sprayed water on the walls, ceiling and floor and very little got on me, this is easily fixed I dont get that.
I think the thing that sends me over the edge and prompts me to write this is the several clumps of hair mats I found on my blanket (it was not mine)
I think you can have an old hospital and be totally fine!!!!  But it has to have a decent standard of cleanliness!  Good soap in every room and nurses who wear gloves for every procedure!  I dont want my temp taken with a thermomiter that's been in someone elses pit or mouth!  They took my temp and shoved it right back in the pocket every time and went on to the next room..
This is a very negative experience for me.  Again I say, I loved the staff!  They were fine but there is NO reason in this year of time for that hospital to run in such an unsanitary way.
Think Marcus Welby MD.  I'm saying the nurses and the entire situation were run like back in the early 70's....we've evolved since then and they need to spend a little time and do just a few little upgrades....just a few to put folks at ease!
I'm open to comments but remember I'm quoting MY experience, if you are one of the folks who wrote how clean the hospital was I'd like to know in what manner was it clean?  To me clean is all encompassing and not just crisp sheets.
Again, LOVED Dr. A and his team and would highly recomend them to anyone.

My Story

This is me now!  I'm tired, I'm achy, I'm not the person I know I can be.  I want to play softball again.  I want to want to take my kids to the park and I want to be healthy and I just WANT!
I will make this happen!  I WILL do the things I want to do, I just need to find my way.
