Surgeon Testimonial

Sherman Yu M.D.
We first saw Dr. Yu at the informational seminar. He is very knowledgeable and personable. I decided that night that I wanted him to perform my lap band surgery. Our first meeting Dr. Yu was interested in everything that my husband and myself had to say. He answered every question and was not in a hurry to get to the next patient. Dr. Yu has a great bedside manner and joked and kidded with us as we went through all of my pre-op assessment and instructions. The office staff is great and the after care is really awesome, too. Thank you Dr. Yu and staff forgiving my life back!

Happy 6 month Bandiversary to me!
on April 24, 2007 3:30 am
I have had "Henrietta" for six months as of April 23, 2007.  God has blessed me so richly through this band.  He has given me my healthy, energy, and vitality back.  I am now down 71.5 lbs; I feel wonderful. I prasie and thank God every day for leading me down this path.  The people in my life that once were skeptical are now cheering me on to get to goal.  I have about 40 lbs to go.  I am praying that I can be there by my first Bandiversary.  WooHoo!  God is so great!

I went for my monthly check-up with my surgeon yesterday.  I have now lost 41 lbs.  Dr. Yu gave me my third fill yesterday.  When he was giving my second fill, all of the fluid from my first fill came back into the syringe like it is supposed to.  Dr. Yu told me not to worry, because the saline can get caught in the folds of the lines and stuff.  So, I didn't sweat it.  Dr. Yu got a bigger syringe yesterday and coaxed all of the saline out of my band before he filled me.  Praise to God everything was there and in order.  I was given .8 yesterday.  I am now up to 2.3 in my band.

In my book, Dr. Yu also gave me a HUGE NSV and compliment.  He told me with the rate that I am losing and my not exerpiecing any complications, I am his poster girl for the band.  Of course, it is not me doing this, but my Father who is leading my every step on this path.

I love my band!!!!

Happy New Year!  Praise God!  I have made my goal of being in Onderland  by New Year's Day 2007.  This morning I weighed in at 199 lbs.  I am now 39 lbs down.  It is such a blessing to have received this tool from my Awesome and Loving Father.  Now, my next goal is to be down 10 lbs be the end of January.  I am going on a girlfriend's trip to New York City on February 1, 2007.  I would love to be down 50 lbs by the day that I leave.  I am so thankful that God has given me this tool, and He has given me my health back.

More about Disney.... I had several NSV while on vacation.  First, I fit in just my seat on the airplane.  We could've put the arm rests down with no problem.  My three year old daughter preferred that they be up.  I also had no problem sitting in any of the rides.  Also, I fit comfortably through every turnstyle that we had to pass through.  Many of these things brought tears to my eyes as I thought how this trip could've been withought my having been granted the priviledge of having WLS.

Today, by the grace of God, I am 1 lb from Onderland!  My goal was to be under 200 lbs by New Year's Eve. I pray that I make it!  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Lord for giving my life back to me through this band!  AT this point, I have lost 38 lbs, and I am NOT obssessing about food.  This is so hard for me to fathom.

My Story

I have always, always, always, been a "big" girl in a "little" girl's body.  From the time I can remember, my parents made us clean our plates whether we were full or not (people in the world starving, you know?).  I was also the butt-end of the "fat" jokes during my public school years.  People who don't have this affliction have no idea what the world is like when you don't fit in, i.e. seats in public, cars, clothes (when I was growing up there was no Lane Bryant), etc.  I am sure you all can commiserate the feelings.  When I entered College, I decided enough was enough (for the one thousandth time) and I starved myself down 101 lbs.  I ate once a day and that was usually popcorn with salad dressing as a dip.  At this time, I was also employed at McDonald's talk about temptation!  I kept the weight off for about 1 1/2 yrs.  When I met my husband, I again got fat and happy.  I tried many times early in our marriage to lose the extra weight.  After 5 yrs of trying to conceive (ttc) our first child on our own, we sought medical intervention.  After three years (and a surgery every year for female/male infertility issues), my Fertility Specialist referred me to a GI doctor for two reasons: 1.  I had a GI problem from Endometriosis, and 2.  My weight indicated that I might have Type II Diabetes.  Through the Hand of the Great Physician, my GI doctor and my Fertility Specialist, I was given my life back for the first time in many years.  My GI doctor put me on a very restrictive and demanding low-carb and high-protein diet.  Praise to God through His tenacity and leading me through this, I lost 100 lbs in about 2 yrs.  God has certainly shown me who He is through all of this.  After 9.5 yrs of ttc, four weeks after I hit the landmark of 100 lbs gone, I was viably pregnant - Praise to God the Father!  I ended up gaining 80 lbs during my pregnancy, because I spent much of the 41 wks that I was pregnant flat on my back in bed.  I thank God every single day for my daughter who is now three years old.  I did lose the 80 lbs in about 8 months after my daughter was born.  I had another miscarriage (my second), evacuated and ran from Hurricane Rita (where I live took a direct hit), and my undoing was having a Hysterectomy in November of 2005.  No matter what I did, I could not lose weight after my Hysterectomy.  My GI doctor told me in August of 2006 that I needed to have the Lap-Band to save my life.  At this point, I had gained everything that I had lost back and was zooming toward more weight. I had my band surgery on 10-23-06, and I haven't looked back since.  Thank you, God for giving me this gift!
