What I was going to say...

Dec 31, 2009

My mom and I were going through some old papers and photos when I came across an envelope that said "Heather - 6th Grade" on it. Inside were my report cards and some forms from my P.E. teacher. I noticed that in sixth grade I was 5'2" and weighed 164 lbs. 164! Pounds! In sixth grade! The average 12-year-old girl is about 92 lbs (I looked it up). That's 70+ extra pounds I was carrying around in sixth grade.

I don't really have a point, other than it was a surprising fact and I wanted to remember it.

ETA: Incision is CLOSED. Finally.

Granny

Dec 31, 2009

My husband and I just got home from visiting my family over Christmas. It was nice to see everyone, but sadly on Christmas eve, my Granny passed away. She was 93. Her funeral was Monday. I'll miss her, but I'm glad she's not in pain anymore and I'm glad I was able to be there for the funeral. She was the quintessential Granny, always working on a quilt for one grandkid or another, or sewing doll clothes or painting or doing something crafty. I must have gotten my craftiness from her.

When I think about her, I remember the Christmas a few years ago, after she'd had to move in with my parents because she was starting to forget things and was having back problems that caused her a lot of pain. The whole time I was there, she was in and out of her room working at her sewing machine. Just before I left, she gave me a set of three quilt-block pot holders - that's what she had been working on the whole time. Needless to say those pot holders haven't been used for holding pots and they won't be anytime soon. I have several little gifts that she's made for me and I treasure all of them. She had nine kids, I don't know how many grandkids and great-grandkids (but I do know she just missed meeting her great-great-great-granddaughter, who will be born in February and named after her) and she managed to make us all feel special.

Now I've made myself cry... so I'll post again later and say what I originally planned to say when I started writing this.

In which I complain a little

Dec 14, 2009

I can't wait to have energy again. Lately I have been super tired. I either take six hour naps or I sleep for 12 hours straight. I know I'm probably not getting enough water or protein even though I feel like I'm eating or drinking every minute of the day. I got some generic crystal lite stuff and it is helping somewhat with the liquids situation. I want to find something to keep track of exactly how much of all that stuff I'm getting, but so far I haven't had much luck. I found some trackers online, but I don't really want to have to login to a website or program everytime I eat or drink something. I'd rather write it down. I'll probably end up making my own tracker.

Other than the complete exhaustion I'm feeling pretty good. My incision is almost completely healed, or so my husband tells me. I can't really see it, except in the mirror, but he can get up close and personal. I'm down to some neosporin and ONE piece of tape and ONE piece of gauze to cover the thing ONCE a day. The skin on my belly is finally growing back. All that tape was a bitch - I'll be scrubbing the sticky residue off for the next year.
