After struggling with thyroid issues for many years, and way too many pounds to count, I decided to research weight loss surgery options.  I found a great surgeon with an extensive pre-op and post-op care program, and chose the Vertical Gastric Sleeve procedure as my best option.

My surgery was on 19-Feb-2010.

3yrs since my WL surgery
on February 20, 2013 11:43 am

Yesterday was the 3yr anniversary of my VGS WL surgery. I am proud of how far I've come! I went from 300.5lbs down to 160lbs and have maintained that weight for more than a year and a half (which I also think is a big accomplishment)...

Surgery 1 Week Ago Today
on February 26, 2010 6:08 am
My surgery was one week ago today, and according to my new (supposed to be accurate to within a half a pound) scale.... I am TWENTY pounds lighter than when I went to the surgeon for my initial appointment!!!

Can you believe that??

My aunt and sister said they can already visibly see a difference in the way my clothes fit.  Until they said that last night, I thought I was the only one who could tell a difference ~ its not much, but the difference is in my upper belly (one of the areas I was most sensitive about since people used to mistake me for being pregnant).

Of course I'll find out the real truth when I go to the surgeon's office for my One Week appointment on Monday... but for now ~ I couldnt be happier!

My Story

I'm a single mom with a sweet little boy who will be 5yo this year.

A thyroid condition, which I had since my mid-20s, got completely out of control after thr birth of my son ~ causing me to put on 20-30lbs/year!! I weighed 170 before having my son, and weighed in at a whopping 295 the week before my weight loss surgery (less than 5yrs later)!

Normally, I'm not a fan of "screwing around with Mother Nature", but I decided to make my health a priority for the sake of my son.  Drastic problems call for extreme measures sometimes.  My surgeon is awesome; he and his staff are all very encouraging that I have made a good decision and will have good results.

Wish me luck!!
