3 month checkin
on November 6, 2012 6:37 am

Had my 3 month checkin with Dr. Hill yesterday.  It was short and sweet.  I have lost 51 lbs. since surgery and 81 since May.  I told him I just joined a gym and he was pleased with that...said it was a key component.

Surgery
on September 7, 2012 12:06 pm
I had my surgery with Dr. Hill at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.  Everything went perfect!  He had to make my biggest incision a bit bigger due to also taking out my gall bladder.  I had a 2 to 3" gall stone that had been sitting there for years.  My recovery has been great, restriction has been great, I am very happy.  I am 5 weeks out, I lost 17 lbs for preop liquid diet and 24lbs since surgery for a total of 41.  Actually since May I have lost 62lbs.!

My Story

Hi! I have been pursuing WLS surgery for 4 1/2 years. I had just finished my 6 month requirements and tests when I lost my job and insurance in Nov. 2008.  At that time I was working at getting the lapband. Three years later I got new insurance and started the process over, however, I changed to pursuing the VSG surgery rather than the lapband. I again just finished all my tests and was about to meet the surgeon and submit the paperwork when I was diagnosed with stage 3b Colon Cancer. That put a roadblock into proceeding further. I had colon resection sugery and did 12 rounds of chemo treatment. On May 15th I had my first CT scan since I finished chemo and it was clear, so I was given the go ahead to continue on with my journey. They only made me repeat a few necessary tests, then submitted my paperwork to my insurance and they approved me right away! I can't say enough good things about BCBS, they were excellent during my cancer journey, never denying anything, then encouraging me to continue on with this journey.

My surgery is scheduled for July 31st! I go July 26th to meet with my surgeon, Dr.Hill, who will also be taking out my gallbladder at the same time as my surgery. I am very excited for my next chapter to finally be here!
