Gilberto Ungson, M.D.
I want to first let everyone considering going out of the country to have a weight loss procedure to do me this one favor and research Dr. Gilberto Ungson. This man...this man. I have never in my life me such a generous, caring man. I say this because he is a man (human being) first, before a surgeon. I receive the DS on October 11, 2005 from Dr. Ungson and I did receive an infection in my wound. Was I worried? Of course I was, who wouldn't be. All I have to say is Dr. Ungson and his staff showed such a genuine concern for my well being. It was so far more than a physician/patient relationship which is what I loved most about being in his care. Being so far away from home and not knowing what to expect is one thing. But to know your in Mexico about to have surgery and not really know the outcome is another situation. I never once felt uncomfortable, even with his staff. Dr. Ungson and his staff went up and beyond my expectations and I will forever be grateful to him. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend him to ANYONE! I'm forever grateful Dr. Ungson. FOREVER GRATEFUL!

    Dear Nicole, It must be very frightening and frustrating to be so far away from home, and going through this complication right off the bat. I'm frightened for you, but I'm also praying for your safety. I've asked (the Lord) to heal your infection, and send angels to watch over you. I'm so especially concerned for you, as I'm planning to take the path you've taken - self-pay in Mexico with Dr. Ungson. Was there anything Dr. Ungson has said to make you feel better about how things are progressing yet? I'm looking forward to your feet being on solid US soil again soon. BEEN GONE FOR A WHILE BUT IM BACK TO UPDATE!

I am so embarassed that I have waited so long to update my profile. I always thought I'd be one of those people that update just about everday and It has probably been two years since I've updated. I don't know where to start. Well for starters, I'm two years four months post op DS. As I mentioned before, my beginning weight was a whopping 340lbs...now I'm 149lbs. I never in my life thought I could weigh 149lbs. Even when I had surgery, I always thought the smallest I would probably ever be was a size 18-20. Lord knows I never thought I could comfortable fit in a size 8! I'm a true size eight and to be honest, I can wear some sixes. Sometime I feel overwhelmed and sometime I feel a little insecure because I am 5'9 and I'm pretty slender and this is without plastic surgery which i do need.  All I know is that it's the best decision I've made in my life and I wish with all my heart every person with a weight problem could have weight loss surgery. It has completely changed my life. I'm  still going back and forth with my nutrition and my weight fluctuates 3or 4 lbs seems like every two or three weeks, but overall, I'm GREAT! I'm not going to lie, I just found out I have a severe vitamin D deficiency and I'm praying thats the reason my hair has started falling back out.  I've been prescribed vitamin D supplement that will get me back where I need to be so I'm not worried at all. I still wouldn't change my decision for the world. Well, that's about all I have to say right now. I promise not to wait another two years to update and keep everyone informed. My Story

To give a quick profile of myself, I had the DS surgery 10/11/05 with Dr. Ungson in Hermosillo Mexico.  My weight the day of surgery was 340lbs and 13 months post op, I'm 170lbs and 170lbs down. There is absouloutly nothing bad I can say about Dr. Ungson.  He is a GREAT surgeon and I recommend him to anyone that has to take the route I did which is self pay out of the country. I have absouloutely no regrets and I'd definitely do it again without hesitation. I am a true size 12 right now, but they are starting to get baggy. My plans are to lose about 15 more lbs and start my journey with reconstructive surgery.
