David, I want you to know how very proud I have been to have you by my side, even before the possibility of weight loss surgery. You have added so much to my life! I am so very fortunate and blessed to have you as my life partner and I am looking forward to us making this weight loss journey together. The future is so full of limitless possibilities for us and I can't wait to share each and every one of them with you. I am praying that your surgery goes without event and that your recovery is a speedy one. (not because of your "to-do" list either...lol!) You let me know if there is anything at all that I can do to make this experience any better for you! I love you David Dougherty! Your Yellowrose...Robin

Dave, I wish you only the best of everything tomorrow. It will be your new birthday. I am sending you prayers and good thoughts, so you can get through this and recover quickly. You and Robin have been just great to get to know here on OH.com. I'm one of your biggest (poor choice for words) fans. I bet if we lived in the same part of the country that we would be great friends. Take care and have Robin update us when she can.

My weekend.
on August 18, 2008 5:42 am

I made it through the weekend with one family pool party and one family reunion and still managed to stay under 200 pounds.     It is hard to watch your intake when there is all this available GREAT tasting delicious food and so much of it. And deserts, OMG so many of my favorites.  I did sample (one fork full) three of the deserts. I had just a taste of each one.  I did pass up some of my other favorites. Remember NO FOOD TASTE AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS.  I did hit the melons and fruit.  It was a good weekend.

Went to the Doctors today
on August 1, 2008 8:28 pm

Had our 9 month check up today at the WLC.  Dr Weiger said that we are both doing above average with our weight loss. He said the fact that both of us are on the same diet helps out. We are both with-in 20 lbs of our goal weight.  So it was an ego buster.  Not much else to say tonight.

8 Month update
on July 27, 2008 7:31 pm

I am doing well. I have been stuck around 205 lbs for most of this month. If you look at my weight tracker on the bottom of my page it doesn’t tell a good story. I have not been eating what I should have been. Well I have been eating what I should have been but also snacking a little too much.  More calories in then what are being burned. I am getting back on track now and am down to 203.4 this morning.

Robin  went  to  support   group  last  Monday  the  14th  and  said it  was  great  to  get   plugged  back in  and  updated  with  everyone.   If  you  don't  belong  to  one,  I  encourage  you  to  seek  one  out.

8 months post op
on July 17, 2008 4:58 am

It is hard to believe, I am 8 months post op and doing great. I have never felt this good in such a long time.  I am at 205 lbs and have been stuck here for a week.  I hope to lose another 22 to get to my low goal of 183 lbs and I will. Yes, before you say it 183 is to small but if I hit that goal when I rebound to what will be a sustainable weight I should be around 190 +/- lbs. I just need to be more careful with my calorie intake and get back to the gym. It has been so nice outside so I have been working around the house in the mornings before I go to work at 2pm instead of hitting the gym in the mornings.   I hope all my OH friends are doing well. I do check on your all blogs so keep updating too.

My Story

I am born of Irish Princes who ruled in Donegal a thousand years ago; I am descended from the High Kings of Ireland, and my name is from the Clann ODochartaigh!

I was born in New Cumberland, Pa and lived there with my 1 Brother and 3 Sisters, Parents, Grand mother and numerous pets. I was next to the youngest child. I was heavy through my childhood. I can remember having to buy “husky” size pants as a kid when we went shopping. I was not extremely overweight just heavy.  I was the last one picked for teams and had a terrible acne problem. That did not add to my self esteem. In high school I slimmed down in my last year or so and was healthy for a couple of years. Then my first marriage came in 1982 and so did the weight. I have been heavy ever since. I slowly went up then scale and was hanging around 300 for a long time then I upped that to 350. My heaviest was 372 but it may have been the scale. Most of my weight is from poor choices, quantity control and sweets. I have always been the active fat guy, volley ball, roller skating, biking etc...  But now I am slowing down and it is harder to get motivated to do things, I can see the danger signs in that and I was approaching the point where I would do less - gain more, do less - gain more, do less - gain more. I knew I had to break the cycle before it affected my employment. It already affected what I would do around the house. I am now working my way back down the scale in preparation for surgery. Every pound I lose now is one that I don’t have to lose later.
