First day back at work
on August 20, 2009 5:25 pm
Today was my first day back at work.  It went better than I expected.  Everyone noticed my weight loss and complimented me!! I could definitely tell when putting on my scrubs this morning.  I don't know how much longer the pants are going to stay on me!! They are so big.  I can't believe I've already shrunk that much.

I'm fighting a bit of depression lately.  I really want to be involved in a support group but there is not one in my area.  I know there are a lot of people who have had surgery.  I'm hoping maybe I can start one but I really don't know where to begin.

Well it is time to get ready for my walk.  I'm walking 2 miles now.  I was walking 4 before surgery but right now I'm not feeling that I can do 4.  It is so hot here I can't wait for it to cool down a bit and then I'll get back to my 4.

I'm so thankful for havingt this surgery and changing my life. It is definitely a challenge everyday.

Home and doing well
on August 9, 2009 7:38 am
Well, I made it through surgery and the first week very well.  I did have an issue with foamies and getting fluids in right after surgery, but got sick to my stomach and everything was fine.  I'm having a problem getting all my protein and water in.  I'm trying to constantly keep a bottle of water with me.  I'm just not used to drinking so much so that is a new habit I will quickly have to form.  Today I'm going to start my exercise.  I'm going to go to the gym and either walk on the treadmill or workout on the Nu Step which is basically the elliptical sitting down.  I need to make an appointment with the exercise physiologist to come up with a good toning workout as well otherwise the bat-wings will be flapping high and mighty before I know it!!!

So far, I'm so pleased with the my rny.  I believe I have made the right choice for me.  I'm excited for all the experiences and opportunities that lie ahead.  I look forward to building a stronger relationship with my husband as we get our bodies fit and eat healthier.  And I most look forward to food not ruling my life anymore.

I know the road ahead is difficult and that I will be faced with many challenges, but I feel that I'm strong and have the strength within myself to conquer the bumps, mountains and curves ahead!

Today is packing day!
on August 1, 2009 7:35 am
Today, I start packing for my surgery.  I will be having surgery on Monday August 3rd.  We will going to San Antonio on Sunday and I'll be starting my colon cleanse....Yippee!! Monday surgery.  Stay a couple nights in the hospital and then the rest of the week in San Antonio at a hotel.

I'm excited and anxious!  I pray that everything will go well.  I'm so ready to start new and not let food run my life.  I'm excited for all the new adventures that will happen, all the WOW moments yet to come, to be healthy, and not be afraid to live my life!!!

Let the journey begin!

Pre-op today
on July 22, 2009 3:14 pm
I drove to San Antonio for my pre-op.  Got everything down and ready to go.  My surgery date is coming fast.  The liquid diet is going good.  I think I have everything set up to bring with me for my surgery and stay in San Antonio.  We hit a huge storm coming home but am glad to be home safe now.

My Story

Hi, My name is Debbie and I have been obese my whole adult life.  As a teenager I was about 10 pounds overweight but really did not give it much thought.  MY parents were obese so it was not abnormal for me.  I really almost thought it was normal to be that way.  When I got married at 18 I really packed on the weight.  I have been on so many diets throughout the years it has done more harm than good.  I lost my mom to a sudden massive heart attack in 1999.  She had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol along with other problems.  My mother had a history of depression and I think we learned to eat our way through all the emotions.  My father had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  He was obese as well.  I lost him as well to all those complications.  When I turned 38  I developed all of those symptoms with the exception of heart disease.  I took care of the problem right away with my diet and exercise but soon lost control again.

I have a wonderful husband who has supported me in whatever I have done.  I look at this RNY tool as a second chance to get my life back. I feel that I have given up so much with my obesity.  I'm so blessed to have my family and friends support me through this journey.

It is time to start living insteading of just existing!
