My Story

Dee's story, like most of yours. I started out of childhood being called speedy mcgreedy and lump lump. I was healthycoming up, but as years passed by I was slim. throughout high school up until I had my daughter 20 yrs. ago. I had considered having the gastric bypass in 2004, but never went through with it, because my mom said to me, you can lose weight without having surgery. I tried weight watchers and other diets. I did lose but the weight came back, I really wasn't motivated. A few years past by and there again I was back with the weight issue. 2007 really hit the target for me. I was weighing 290. Almost 300lbs, there's got 2b a better way. So I contacted the gastric bypass office once again in Greenville N.C. Jan 07 of course my insurance medicare and BCBS PPO required that I do a 6 month weight loss program. (Dr. Chapman) was my physician. I contacted my medical Dr. in Golsboro, and told him what I wanted to do. He agreed. I manage to loose 10 lbs on my own before having the surgery I had to weigh in at his office every month for 6 months. Yippe! I found out in April 07 that I had sleep apnea, mine was mild, it was just the thought of having to sleep with a machine. I didn't want any more health problems to arise, I have degenrative arthritis in both knees, an irr. heartbeat. I had to get a few tests done.  I did get  a chest xray, upper gi, abg( blood drawn from my vein) it wasn't at all painful. My surgery date was Jan. 25 I had the Lapband.  I weighed in at 280lbs. After the surgery, all I could think about was food. The surgery went well, I wasn't in alot of pain, just a little sore. I went home the next morning. I did alot of walking, not alot of gas pains. I survived the cruel liquid diet. My 2 week check up was Feb. 7 (258 lbs.)  I had lost 20lbs in 2 weeks unbelievable. My Dr. was impressed. He first told me that I would lose 15lbs the first 2 weeks. My next check up will be March 6 I'm ready for a fill that will be my first one. WOW I get to see what everyone else has  been feeling. I'm excited! I have met a lot of nice people on this site. I am glad that I chose the band. I was wearintg a size 22. I can wear some 18's now. Who would have imagined, I still have a ways to go.........
