Surgeon Testimonial

David Le, MD
I have had a few appointments with Dr. Le, and I have been pleased with our interactions. My first thought upon meeting him was that he was quite young. However, Dr. Le handles himself professionally and is willing to answer any questions that I have. I never feel that I am being rushed out of the office with him.rnrnAny future patients should note that Dr. Le is rather soft spoken but quite intelligent. He's also quite thorough and ensures that his patients understand the surgery that they are about to embark upon. If there are any questions, he will be the one to answer them quickly.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
As a child and teenager, I did not have issues with my weight. I studied the martial arts religiously and led a fairly healthy life. As a whole, I did not think much about my weight. Transitioning into adulthood proved to be difficult though. My mother passed away from an excruciating death from colon cancer, and her death took a toll on me. I coped by turning to something that I thought would bring me comfort and solace: food. I stopped working out and starting gaining weight, and the weight gain got out of control. Behaviorally and emotionally, I dealt with stress and anger with eating. Eating was the only thing that I felt I could control. So it's interesting how the tables really were turned: Food was the master, and I was actually the servant.

Long Time, No Update
on October 30, 2008 6:44 pm
It has indeed been a while since I have posted here, but I have an excuse--actually, several.  The main excuse is that my partner has been growing leaps and bounds with his company, so we have been doing a series of moves to accommodate that.  We have relocated to the Los Angeles area to the Seattle area and now to the Phoenix area.  There's been a lot of moving, and, of course, I am in charge of the logistics of all those moves.  Hence, I have been quite busy.

It looks as if we will be grounded here in the Phoenix area for at least a year or two.  Technically, we live in Mesa, which is a large city just east of Phoenix.  Overall, I am liking it, but the heat is just impressive.  I can already see that our electricity bill is going to be high year-round.

As for my health, everything has been going well.  There have been no issues that have come up, and it looks as if my weight loss has settled at 175 pounds.  Truthfully, I would like to lose a bit more, but I am just fine.  I've got a size-30 to -31 waist, wear a medium shirt, smaller shoes, and smaller everything else.

Above and beyond that, nearly a year and a half later, I am finally starting to get settled into this new body.  I cannot tell you how many compliments I have been getting from people--some even from random strangers on the street--and I never was used to that, but I am used to it now.  And without sounding too pompous, I would like to think that I am friggin' hot!  Hell, someone's got to think it.

I am still eating well and small portions.  However, I can tell that my pouch has expanded (naturally) because I can eat more food that I used to be able to.  The time is now for me to pay close attention to my portion sizes and exercises.  Speaking of which, I am still exercising like a workhorse.  As mentioned in the previous post, I am training for the Gay Games.  It's hard, and sometimes I feel like giving up, but I will make it.

The hubby is doing well.  There have been some struggles with his weight loss, and he is still "on the fence" about whether to get the surgery or not, so all I can do is be a support for him and hope that he comes to a conclusion that is acceptable for him.  The main focus for him, however, has been his job and the growth in it.

So, that's all I am going to update for the meantime.  Now that we are more settled, I am going to be updating more frequently and sharing different weight-loss and health-maintenance tips that I think of or come across in my daily traispsings in life.
