Hi!  My name is Diane.  I came into this world fat (a 10lb 14oz baby) and I've remained that way all my life.   I'm 45 years old.  I have 3 wonderful children.

I've come to the decision for the surgery because my dad died young (56) and I want to make sure I dont follow that path.  I want to live to see my children grow.

The WAIT!
Wednesday night was my last lifestyle class.  Now I am playing the waiting game for them to submit my paperwork for insurance and to get approval and then a surgery date.

I was very figity the last class.  I just wanted it to be over!  I watched the NUT chew gum her entire lecture.  I wanted to walk up and hit her on the back of the head and knock the gum out of her mouth.
Boy I didnt realise till then how nervous and anxious I was.

I was told it can take up to two weeks for them to gather my paper work and submit it to my insurance.  They should have an answer in about 2 days after that.  Once they get that they will set up the surgery.  I have all sorts of thoughts running through my head.   What if I'm denied?  What if I'm approved too fast and the surgery is set up before work can handle it?

I guess I'll cross these bridges in a few weeks...

God I'm NERVOUS!

Back on track and finally seeing the finish line in the distanc
on September 16, 2008 1:58 pm
Well it's been crazy and busy here to say the least.  I have insurance through work (Thank GOD) and things are back on track.  I had my 5th class last night and I had my Nutrition Consult today.  I took my exam and passed with %100.  I was amazed I did so well after being up since 3AM for work.

My final class is October 8th and they can start the procedings to get my insurance approval.  I never thought I'd get this far since I started in April.  I am so suprised how fast this is going.  I pray the rest of the journey goes as quickly but with less stress! LOL.

Hard to believe the last class is 3 weeks away!

Setbacks
on September 1, 2008 2:20 am
Well I drove hubby to work this past Wednesday and was looking forward to an evening of quiet when I got a call from him telling me to go pick him up.

He was permanently laid off.  He handed me a letter about the lay off and another about the insurance being done at the end of the month. (3 days)
As all the fears set in and I had time to process I realised it meant no health insurance.. no surgery!  I was sick.  All my tests are done, 2 classes and my Nut appointment and I'm done.  Done in little over a month actually.

I pulled myself together and started to get info.. Lots of help from this group actually.   Tomorrow I will know if my work insurance will pick us up early instead of waiting for open enrollment.

I'm trying not to emotional eat.  That's always been my friend in desperate times.

Hopefully I'll have answers soon.

Tests
on August 20, 2008 1:10 pm
This morning I had my stress test.  I am very glad it was posponed from last week.  The testing wasnt that bad.  I went in.  They put in an IV and gave me my first round of dye.  I had to drink water and sit for 30 minutes for it to go through my system.  Then I went into a room and laid down and they took pics of my heart for 15 minutes.  I couldnt move and I had to lay there with my hands above my head.  It wasnt too bad but mid way through my body told me it wasnt a very comfortable position to be in.  I made it through that and then they took me to the treadmill room.  I was given more meds and they started the test.  They kept excellerating it quickly.  I managed to get through it without much discomfort.  I was mostly sweaty and out of breath.  They kept talking to me to wind me I think LOL.  Just when I thought I couldnt go further the test was done.   I sat down and they gave me more water.  I went back to the waiting room and boy I was physically drained.   I almost fell asleep waiting to be taken back for 15 minutes of pics again.   Once I was taken back to get the pics I laid down and realised I would enjoy this round of pics.  I almost fell asleep during it!

They checked to make sure I didnt move and then sent me on my way.  All my tests for surgery are now complete.  All its left is my nut consult and 2 more classes.  I'm on my way!!!

Smileycons!
After being up all night working on Wednesday I headed to Westmoreland Hospital for my EKG, Chest Xray, Upper GI & Stress test.

I needed precertification for the stress test and wasnt sure if I was going to get it in time to take the test.   They did the chest xray first.  After that I waited about a half hour for the upper gi.  That was strange and interesting.  This time I was able to watch the barium move through my system.  When I had the test years ago I couldnt see anything.  I drank the thick barium too fast and they had to give me more.

After I got dressed they called me and told me they got the authorization for my stress test and to head there.  She said they would be able to do my ekg there too.  I got there and checked in and waited again.  I was told if I do the stress test without the treadmill it would take 3-4 1/2 hours.  The treadmill would 2 1/2 hours.  After being up all night hubby and I were tired and I wanted to go home.  I said I would do the treadmill to get out of there as fast as I could.  They came out and told me I couldnt have the stress test because I had a belly  full of barium.  I was a tad disapointed cause I wanted to get it over with but I understood.  She sent me back upstairs for the ekg.  She said she would call them and they would expect me so I wouldnt have to wait.  Got upstairs AND I had to wait.... No big surprise there.  I finally got the ekg and went home.

My stress test has been scheduled for next Wednesday.  At least I will have slept before it and I wont be as tired!

My Story

I would like to thank all the wonderful people that responded to this newbie yesterday.  I truly feel welcomed.  It's great meeting people that are in the same boat as me and not having to hide what I look like or hide my feelings.

I really feel as if the whole process has started today.  Starting today and the next 7 days I have to wear an electronic armband to monitor my activity for the test group.  I couldnt wait to put it on last night and after I did this morning I already find it annoying!  It's a reminder of my fat arm as it pinches the skin.....snort!

I hope to learn from everyone going through this experience with me and then later help those at the beginning stages when I'm further along and they are starting out.

I am going to enjoy each day as I come closer to my goal of being healthy!

Diane

PS... Just incase you haven't figured it out yet.. I REALLY like PINK...snicker!
