Surgeon Testimonial

Douglas Ewing, M.D.
I chose Dr. Ewing to do my Lap RNY surgery. I had the initial meeting in his office and we talked about the surgery. He was very open to questions and my concerns.

I had surgery on 8/28. During the surgery it was discovered that I had an abnormal torso and they could not staple. The had to stitch everything by hand. The surgery ended up taking about 5 hours!!!

Dr. Ewing and his staff were great. They took good care of me. The nurses at the bariatric unit were wonderful. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days, so I really spent enough time there to know!

Happy New Year
I returned from my two week trip to Europe.  Paris, Amsterdam, London.  It was amazing.  We must have walked 4 or 5 miles a day, seeing all of the sights.   It was my first trip to Amsterdam and what a great city that is.  It is so beautiful.

I was proud of the fact that I was able to walk by the croissant, pain du chocolate and Sticky Toffee pudding and upon our return I had dropped 8lbs.

Here's hoping that the weight keeps coming off and I have a successful 2009 on my WLS journey!

Still losing
on December 16, 2008 3:25 pm
Still on a downward spiral of loss.  Weight and hair that is.  I guess I should be happy that I am normal!!!

We are getting snow outside tonight.  I am on my way to the theatre to see a client in a show.  One great thing about this weight loss is that the seats in the theatres are so much more comfortable now.  Thank goodness, since I attend the theatre about 3 nights a week!!!

Weight is not all that I am losing
on December 8, 2008 8:27 pm
Well, I am now under 300lbs.  298 to be exact.  I am feeling pretty good about my weight loss.

I have begun the feared "hair loss" stage.  My hair is falling out pretty rapidly.  I lint rolled my shirt two times today and it still had hair all over it.    I have pretty thick hair, so hopefully you won't be able to notice my bald spots.

Hmm, something strange is happening
on November 12, 2008 8:33 pm
Or maybe not strange!  The weight seems to be just falling off this week.  I am pretty happy about that since I had a nasty stall back there a week or two ago.  Now I seem to be averaging a 1-2lbs a day.  Crazy Week.

Inch by Inch
on November 9, 2008 9:14 pm
I have had a week or two here and there with no weight lost.   But my clothing size keeps on getting smaller and smaller.   I am losing inches like crazy.

My current total weight loss is 53lbs.  Not too bad for a little over 2 months.  I am pretty happy with that.

My Story

I grew up in Orlando, FL.  I am currently living in Hoboken, NJ and work in midtown Mahattan.

I have been heavy pretty much my whole life.  It wasn't until I moved to NYC about 12 years ago that I started to leave the "heavy" area and approach serious obesity.  You would think all the walking and activity would help keep the weight down, but it did not.  I have never been a huge eater, so my biggest challenge for five years was to find out why I had gained so much weight. Granted, I would much rather have had the chicken fingers than the salad!!!!   I had thyroid testing, blood sugar tests, etc.  I was not until last year that I was finally diagnosed with PCOS.   I thought that diagnosis was going to be my magic diagnosis and once I started to take the glucophage that the pounds would just melt away.  Well that did not happen and in early july, I decided it was time for the surgery.   My mom had the surgery 5 years ago, so I called her first and she was so excited.  It was good to have someone to share things with and she suggested I go to OH.  So, here I am!
