Hi my name is Doreen and I am married with 2 kids which are my world.  I work full time and volunteer at my church whenever possible.  My faith is very important to me.  I have been overweight all my life and nothing has worked.  I was on Nutri System right after high school and went down to a size 12 but that didn't last long, I have tried Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, pills and everything else out there but have had little or no success.  I am looking forward to surgery to change my life so I can be there for my kids and husband.

3 months out
on February 4, 2009 5:02 am
I am just over 3 months out and have lost 78 pounds since surgery and I'm feeling great.  I probably would have lost more if I had joined a gym sooner but I finally joined 3 weeks ago and go 4-6 times a week and I love it, I work out for over an hour and then hit the pool and hot tub.  I currently do not have a job, I was laid off at the end of my medical leave so motivation was a big problem for a while, I think I have butt calouses from my recliner but anyway I have moved forward.  I am in my third week at Andover College for a Medical Assostant degree and am excited an nervous at the same time.  I'm sick of winter and cant wait for the summer months to come.

Finally Postop
on October 23, 2008 2:31 pm
Well I had my surgery on Monday and everything went well.  Day 2 was not fun as I couldn't have anything to drink, my mouth and throat were very sore, I did lots of walking.  Wednesday was the leak test, nasty tasting stuff but it went well, no leaks.  I then mastered drinking all the water they required and then out with the drain, wow was that a trip, it was the strangest thing I have ever felt.  Then I was able to go home.  Yes home sweet home, no nurses coming in the middle of the night for vitals.  I slept so good, it was great to be in my own bed.  Today I have been trying to get all my liquid and protein in, it has been a challenge but I'm up for it.

WEEK 1 DOWN, WEEK 2 TO GO
on October 13, 2008 1:54 pm
Well this is the second week of my liquid protein diet and I'm not having much fun.  The shakes are getting to me and make me gag just thinking of them.  I broke down and am now drinking chicken broth.  I just needed something warm and not sweet to have.  I have been having headaches, nausea, irritability, disoriented... you name it and I seem to have it but what do expect on 525 calories a day.  I had communion at church yesterday and I told my husband that it was the best piece of bread I have ever tasted, and get this one I have been craving a tuna fish sandwich, not chinese, mexican or pizza a stupid tuna fish sandwich.  I can see it all made with toasted bread and a slice of cheese, I'm drooling at the thought, I can even smell it and who likes the smell of tuna, lol.  Well I have pre-op tomorrow so I'll find out all the other fun stuff I have to do before surgery.

Two week liquid protein
on October 1, 2008 11:39 am
I had my appt with Corinne, was not good, I gained 18 lbs since January, not sure how I gained that much but it's there on the scale.  I was angry when my insurance denied me and denied again after the appeal.  It wasn't until I went to my HR dept and they fought to amend our policy.  I am now back on track and Monday Oct 6th I start my 2 week liquid protein diet until surgery day.

My Story

Sept 12, 2008
I am 39 years young and have been overweight 98% of my life.  I was thin for a very short time after I finished the nutri system program back in 1988 but soon began gaining and after I got married gained more, child 1, gained more, child 2 gained more.  Do you see the pattern!!!! Thank God I only had 2.  I love them dearly, they are my life, D.J. is 14 and Darcie is 12 and I couldn't imagine life without them.  I am on my second marriage and my husband is the best, he is sweet, loving and would do anything for anyone.
As you can see in my blog I have been fighting to have this surgery for 3 years and the end is finally near.  I have a number of health problems: High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Thyroid problems, Type II Diabetic, Sleep Apnea, Gout and what ever else you can think of that my weight has to do with.  I had surgery in July to have my Gall Bladder removed, boy that was a crappy surgery, I thought I would be up and around the next day, WRONG.  It took about a week before I was feeling myself again.  This journey has been wild and I'm glad to start phase II of this ride.
My kids are also very thrilled to have a mom that has energy and can keep up with them.  My daughter was in tears when she found out that this would practically cure the diabetes.  I can't wait for Oct 20th to get here so I can be on the losing side.
