Update...
on February 21, 2007 8:16 pm

I am waiting for my paperwork for the past 5 years to be done and then they will be submitted.  I have my pshyc. appointment on 3/23.  My husband wanted to go to the informational seminar in Bowling Green so that he could get a better understanding of what will happen, what is needed and what to expect.  He even asked if there is a support groups for the spouses...I about fell off my chair.  I never thought he would support me on this because of the risks and finances involved.  I have such a great husband.

I've Hit a ROAD BLOCK
on January 27, 2007 7:06 pm

I was hoping for better news when I got home today, but I got a letter in the mail telling me that I have to have 5 years documented proof of all diets attempted in that time.  Letters from my doctor won't work.  SO,what the hell does this really mean?  Am I screwed????????????

WOW (this is not all about me)
on January 26, 2007 6:46 pm

Well, I really don't know where to start.

My friend had her surgery on Tuesday (1/23) and everything went well.  I'm so proud of her.  She is my inspiration! I went to BG the next morning and had all my work done (EKG, Labs, XRay and Pulminary tests).  I went up to see my friend after all that.  She didn't look well, and she was sick to her stomach.  Other than that, she said she was fine.  Later that night, her heart rate dropped to 29 and was bed ridden.  I went back down to see her on Thursday and WOW! Total transformation. She looked 100% better.  Some of the tubes removed and she was getting around great (btw-they get you up hours after your surgery). She was still sore but she said it will all be worth it. Again, I'm so proud of her!  She has filled me in on things about what was going on.  She is making sure I know what will happen come my time. Though not everyone will experience the same things.  I understand that.  She showed me her "wounds" and the tubes that were in them and what they were there for. Isn't she great?!?  Dr. Lane came in and we all just had a great informational chat. She had her "leak" test today and all is well.  She will be coming home on Saturday.  I talked to her today and the nutritionist gave her some SF JELLO.  I don't know how that sat with her as she also had company and I let her be with them.  That is all for now, and I will be sure to keep you all posted on the next part of my journey.

Things are getting underway
on January 20, 2007 7:34 pm

Had my consultation on Wednesday. Everything went well. Dr. Lane is great and so was the whole staff. It was late as I left my appointment, so I planned to have the lab work and all the other fun stuff done on the 24th. This way, I can see my friend the day after her procedure to make sure she is doing okay. I hadn't said anything to my husband about my plans for a few reasons. I really wanted to have all the information I could get in case he had questions. As we sat at the table for dinner, I had all these thoughts running through my head. I felt sick to my stomach because I didn't know what kind of reaction I was going to get. Then, I hit him with the news. I'm so blessed to have him in my life. He totally understood and said he would support me!!!  That was the best news ever!  I hit him with all the information I had and he is actually reading up on it. I'm going to give him the link to this site so that he can ask questions and read the forum too. That is all for now. Love to all!!!

My Story

Hello everyone! Thanks for stopping by. My name is Laura and I'm 36 years old. I have always been a "big girl". I remember trying a lot of diets and had success with a couple but then gained the weight right back and more. My heaviest was almost 400lbs. That is when I realized I can't do this. I have to change and that time is NOW! I tried Atkins and lost 50lbs but gained half that back. My friend Kathy has been wanting to go to a seminar about Bariatric Surgery and she didn't want to go alone. I went with her and they mentioned that this is a tool to help you lose weight. I can't do this alone. Lord knows, I really could use the help. I suffer from a lot of ailments that I won't bore you with. I thought long and hard about this and I have my consultation on Jan.17th. I'm excited and nervous at the same time! Can that be?!? I don't know how my husband and family will feel about this, but I am doing this for myself. I want to be able to have a baby before I hit 40 and that won't happen if I don't get rid of this weight. My only support group right now are my friends. I'm not stopping! Not for anyone. It's time I do the right thing and start taking care of ME! It's all about ME, ME, ME...LOL:)
