Surgeon Testimonial

Dean J. Mikami, M.D.
I fell head over heels in love with him at my first visit. He walked in and sat down and looked me right in the eyes when he talked to me. He answered each and every one of my many questions completely. He let me know of all of the risks, all of the possible benefits to me and gave me the complete rundown how the first year would be for me. I respect him as a person and trust his ability as a surgeon. I had 5 previous abdominal surgeries with healing problems each time. He vowed to me to make every attempt to do the Lap RNY on me. He kept his word and cleaned up all my adhesions and scar tissue and did a beautiful job with my surgery. I would recommend him to anyone who was considering OSU for Bariatric surgery. He is supportive and has responded quickly to any problems I might of had.

On top of being a first class surgeon he is a wonderful human being, with a beautiful genuine smile and bedside manner.

I am keeping to my new Years resolution and increasing my workouts and eating better. I am still having trouble getting weight off but my body is changing. Getting firmer, stronger and less floppy. I am going to look into the tummy tuck later in the summer after I get these last 30 pounds off. I am feeling lonely these days, and its finally hit me that I am not okay ALONE anymore. I want to be more social and find that special man in my life. I miss Hugs and kisses and being important to someone. I Love who I am, and know I have a lot to share with someone. Its just so many of the men I meet just want a one night stand and cant really understand the life of a WLS post op. My dream would be to meet a sweet, honest loving kind post op who has been where I have been. Who can understand saggy baggy tummy skin and appreciate it. LOL

Have a wonderful Feb.. Love and hugs to all,

Miss Laura

Another New Year
on December 30, 2006 11:26 pm
I guess I am feeling on the sentimental side tonight. Gearing up for the new year and looking forward to more new beginnings. I am newly comitted to losing these last 30 pounds and being at my goal of 120 pounds by the time I see Dr Mikami for my 2 year check up in May. I am going Monday to pay for my membership to the Amerihost and I am going to gather all my water aerobic gear and get back in the swing of things. I had never felt better in all my life  than I did when I was swimming every day. I would do 45 mins of water aerobics, weight training with my water weights, running in the water, playing with my son, stretching and then running on the treadmill, eliptical machine, and doing some lifting. I felt energized and so very happy with my life. I cant understand why I stopped going to the gym and settling into old habits again. But tomorrow is a new day.. And I am still going to make that goal of 120. It may have taken me longer to get there than I had expected, but I will make it.

I feel so blessed to have the support of my OH family. The conference in Cols last month was awesome. I met some new friends that have made my world a better place. Tabitha you were the best roomate ever. Deb you are a hoot and a sweetheart of a lady. Earl, what a cutie.. I wish I hadnt been so shy that night.. LOL

Well I think thats all for now. I will keep you informed of my progress as I renew my committment to being the best possible Laura I can be in 2007.

Lots of Love and Hugs

I am so very happy that I made the choice and gained approval to have this surgery that has saved my life. I saw my surgeon last Monday 11/14/05 and he was thrilled to tears ( literally) at my sucess and didnt even begin to recognize me. He told me I was his biggest 6 month loser ever with no complications.. And my lab work/ bp/cholesterol etc were all PERFECT. So I am doing well nutritionally even though I am losing so rapidly. I feel incredible and havent looked this good EVER!!!

I started out at 310 on May 5th 2005 and I am 160 pounds today. My original weight goal from the surgeon was to be 180 at one year. And my personal goal was 140. Now he and I both agreed that 125 is an achievable goal for both of us. So I am hoping when I go back in May thats were I am close to... And then we can start talking Panniculectomy... Whooooo Hooo...

Love and Hugs to all,
Dory

My Story

I have been trying since October 29th 2002 to get this surgery approved by Ohio Medicaid. It is not a covered benefit so we had to go a long way to prove medical necessity. I have sleep apnea, Cardiomyopathy, Cardiomegally, hepatomegally, GERD, Joint pain, arthritis in my joints, high b/p, high cholesterol and triglycerides

Its been 6 months since I had the WLS and I am so happy with my results and have no regrets about having the surgery. I have gone from 310 pounds to 167 in six short months. It seems that my brain is in overtime working hard to catch up with my body. I am working hard to get in the best shape of my life. I work out every day and do water Aerobics and work out on the treadmill and weight machines at the gym. I think working out has kept my arms and legs nicely toned. But I know that I will have to have the tummy tuck. But what do you expect after losing so much weight and the c sections and other abdominal surgeries. So I knew that I would have trouble firming up the tummy. Oh well. I am still thrilled with my new life and finding each new day such a wonderful adventure.

This summer I had the Big WOW moment at Kings Island by easily fitting into the roller coasters and keeping up with the rest of our group as we ran from ride to ride. The Cinci conference was amazing. Meeting all the people here on the board was so great. I made some lifelong friends there that weekend.

I think thats about it for now. I go next Monday to see Dr Mikami for my 6 month check up and hope to be at his one year goal for me at 6 months. He will either be happy or yell at me for losing too fast. LOL He is such a sweetheart I cant imagine him yelling too much.

Love and hugs,
Laura
