First Appointment-WOW
on August 9, 2012 9:06 am
 Well,
I had my first appointment on today. Dr. Fuzz and his resident, Dr. Buckley were great. The staff that I met, Tina and Mellita were awesome. I had to change my goal today. I am currently 349 pounds at 5 feet and 10 inches height. My BMI is hovering around 49-50.  I have been exercising, but I know my problem is portion control.

I am back on the wagon. I have my appointment for the nutritionist and for the exercise physiologist. I am excited regarding my journey; however, I know I have alot of work to do.

Great Seminar and Appointment Moved Up
on August 8, 2012 6:11 pm
 Hi Everyone,
I went to the seminar tonight. Met my surgeon, Dr. "Fuzz" Hernandez. I spent the past 10 years researching all the procedures and the meeting was great. My initial consultation with Dr. Fuzz has been moved to tomorrow 8/9/2012 at 8:30am. I am still excited and realize indeed this is my chosen path.

I took my before pictures today, but will wait and put them up when I am comfortable. I am not really fond of pictures because of my weight and appearance; however, I realized that I needed to do this as a part of my journey. CP

Considering WLS
on August 8, 2012 6:06 am
I have been considering WLS for the past 2 years. For the past 30 years (since I was in the 4th grade), I have dealt with obesity. I have lost and re-gain, lost and re-gain weight my entire life. I have been on every diet you can think of and have been on all the medications.

I have had many reservations regarding WLS; however, I finally completed all of the paperwork and will see Dr. "Fuzz" Hernandez on August 28 for my initial consultation.

I will attend my first seminar on today (August 8).

I am excited regarding taking these steps; however, I am also very concerned about the process.

My Story

I have been overweight since the 4th grade. I was born a preemie and spent 3 weeks in the incubator. My mother died at 36 from a massive coronary, October 17, 1980.

My maternal grandmother died at the age of 36 from aneurysm in 1966 the year that I was born. She held me in March and died in November.

I am now 46, pre-diabetic and suffering from hypertension.
I was 14 years old when my mother died I was the last one to talk with her. She was morbid obese and had so many problems. My dad was obese and started walking 5 miles a day since 1980 and has consistently done so to this day. He reached his ideal weight of 160lbs years ago and maintains it. He will be 75 in October.

I exercise 5xs a week for 1.5 hours a day during the morning. Sometimes I add an extra hour of physical activity in the evening. I am have been vegan and now vegetarian with fish. I don't like breakfast and usually skip, but for the last month, I have been drinking a protein shake for breakfast. I realize breakfast is important.

I lost a lot of weight in 1989 and 1990. I have yo yoed for the last 22 years. I have gone through programs dealing with food addiction and have dealt with all of the emotional trauma that started in my childhood.

What is amazing to me is my ability to set a professional goal and achieve it without breaking a sweat. I have also achieved personal goals with very little effort.

I just can't seem to finally achieve my weight lost goal and maintain a healthy lifestyle. What I have realized over the past 10 years is...I did not have the right tools.

I know WLS comes with a set of tools. All of my PCP over the years have been against this procedure. I finally changed after spending almost 2 years on drug therapy combined with exercise and diet. I was able to lose 60lbs but once I got off the medication all the weight returned.

I have experience sucess in every facet of my professional career. I still battle weight-loss and have not been able to maintain a healthy weight since 1989. After 10 years of research, I now consider WLS to begin the journey to an healthy life-style.
