I was approved by my insurance in TWENTY-FOUR HOURS! I am scheduled for 2/28, as requested. Preop testing on 2/23. The countdown begins...

I saw my therapist this morning, and she said she had "no reservations" about me having the surgery. I just got an email from the surgical coordinator. They got the letter from my therapist this morning, and the surgeon is submitting my paperwork for approval this afternoon. They do not expect any problems, and would I like to have surgery on February 19th? :-) I asked if the 21st would work, as a Wednesday suits me better.

ETA: My office manager has asked for an additional week for call and scheduling reasons, so I'm now aiming for surgery on 2/28/07.

Pre-op III

I saw the gastroenterologist today. As expected, no issues. My upper endoscopy is scheduled for 2/7 in the afternoon, so I will have to take off the entire day (the second half of my stress test and my echo are scheduled for that morning). I will have to make arrangements for someone to get me home, and to get me back to work in the morning the next day, as I will not be allowed to drive after the sedation.

I never updated last Friday. I had the gallbladder ultrasound - the tech said she didn't see any stones, but I haven't seen the full report. The pulmonologist cleared me with no problem.

Next up, gastro on Friday.

I saw the cardiologist yesterday. He doubled my atenolol and swapped lisinopril for the verapamil. My stress test is 2/5 and my echo is 2/7.

I had my PFTs this morning. More asthma than I expected, and less restrictive disease.

Next up, gallbladder ultrasound and pulmonary consult on Friday.

Planning

Jan 14, 2007

I met with Dr. JB and his team on Friday 1/11/07. I weighed in at 396. His coordinator, who is also a WLS patient, was very friendly, very knowledgable, and very reassuring. His nutritionist was also very knowledgable, though she laid out a post-op plan which seems far more restrictive than what I've seen as I've toured some people's OH sites.

I am seeing a cardiologist on 1/16 (I have to have an echo; hopefully he won't want a stress test, though it's no big deal if he does), a pulmonologist on 1/19 and a gastroenterologist on 1/26. All three are doctors I work with at my hospital, so hopefully they can expedite all my testing (it's the requisite EGD that worries me, since I have to take a day off for that one!) I need to get the letters from my primary and my therapist; both those calls will be made tomorrow from the office. I will have blood drawn in the office tomorrow as well, and will call to make an appointment for the gallbladder U/S.

I told Dr JB I wanted to do the surgery in early March; he thinks that's very possible. The plan will be to have a mid-week (Weds or Thurs) surgery, have a friend stay with me at home through the weekend, and return to work the following week.
