I've struggled forever w/ weight loss. Finally, it's doable!
Time for an update! I got my lapband in late January, 2006. It's the smartest thing I've ever done and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Not only the choice to have the surgery, but with my choice of surgeon as well. I'm feeling very fortunate that it's been smooth sailing!
So, I started out at 307 pounds when I finally made it to my initial appointment with the WLSurgeon. Even though I was very comfortable w/ the Dr., I was still afraid that I wasn't going to be happy with the drastic change that I was going to be faced with. While the weight loss was certainly appealing, I didn't think it was going to be so easy to give up food. Let's face it......I love to eat and drink! That's what got me here.
So, by the time I got up the nerve and made up my mind, I had lost about 15 pounds (it took me 4 months to lose that much). My hospital stay was a good one. The hosp. staff was exceptional (of course there's always one bad apple but I didn't let it bother me!)
I got off to a bit of a slow start - a pound here and a pound there, but before I knew it, I was on the downward slide! If I never see jello again, it'll be too soon!! In the beginning, I wasn't really in synch with the program. I wasn't actually eating enough food so I wasn't getting enough protien in. Then I found protien shakes. They've helped me tremendously on those days when I just don't think I've gotten enough protien in.
So....5 months later, I'm down 101 pounds from my highest weight.
Anyway, I love the OH Website. The support is great. It keeps me focused and while I think I've got my eating obsession under control right now (and I hope forever!) I'm now obsessed with the site. So, thanks to everyone who participates so freely and openly!
I'm going to try to keep this updated more because I enjoy reading everyone's profiles and posts!
Saturday mornings are like a ritual for me. I spend a couple of hours reading posts full of success stories and struggles. It gives me inspiration to keep going. I always find it a little tougher to stay focused on weekends because during the week, I'm busy at work and food isn't lurking everywhere.
I broke the 200 lb mark this week so I'm on an upswing! I'm starting the weekend at 198.6 and still can't believe it! I guess I have no excuse for not exercising anymore. Everyone else is doing it and I will, too. I bought the Sharper Image cycle (on sale for $59 this week!) It sits on the floor for your legs or on a table for your arms. My upper arms need the help....They're flabby and need a good workout!
The weight loss is a little slower now than for the past 5 months but I'm not complaining. I've lost about 7 pounds in the last month but I'm hoping the exercise, whatever I can do, will help. Why is it that breaking a zero is sooo hard!
Did I mention how happy I am that I got banded? And how much I appreciate my Dr. (Dr. Artuso/Dobbs Ferry). He's given me back my life and I'm really greatful for that!
Well...time to go read some success stories and see some before and after pictures of the other 'losers'!
Well...time for an uodate. I didn't realize I hadn't updated in so long. Went for my third fill yesterday. I've been hungry lately and now it makes sense because my Dr. told me I had a full cc evaporate. So he added back 1.5 cc's to bring me to 4.5 or 5 cc's in the band in total....not really sure which. I just woke up and YAY I'm not hungry! I guess it's working,or at least I hope it is. By this time yesterday I would have been thinking about what I was going to have for breakfast.
So, I'm still losing fast....ahead of schedule according to the Dr. I was 186.4 when I left the house yesterday. That puts me right on the brink of Overweight (actually BMI of 30) so any shred of loss will bring me to overweight. I've got to be good...I've got to be good, i've got to be good!
I met some really nice women at the Dr's office and talked for a long time....it was great.
Well, gotta go face the scale...and the day. I may have gained a little yesterday 'cause I was hungry and found the candy dish.... but it is what it is....just need to move on and do great today!
Oh, I may have forgotten to mention this....I LOVE MY BAND!!!! and I thank God and my Dr. for it every day!
Best to all!!
Thought I'd do a quick update.....this has been a slow month for me in terms of losing, but it's all good! I had a fill earlier in the month but still don't feel restriction. I am sticking to the Band rules but only lost 4 pounds. I've lost enough in the first 8 months that I don't expect to lose quickly anymore....and as long as I'm losing, and not gaining, I'm happy.
I'm still struggling with the exercise thing.....I'm doing a lot of walking, but feel I need to step it up a little to continue to lose. Maybe today will be the day....let's hope so.
Well....time to go meet the day....going for a manicure/pedicure and time to start looking for a new fall wardrobe.
