Surgeon Testimonial

Aaron G. Baggs
I have only talked with Dr. Baggs one time. It was for my consultation and I think he is great. I have talked with alot of Doctors and none stayed focus like he did.rnrnHad my surgery on June 18th. Dr. Baggs is one of the most soft spoken, caring, Doctors I have every come in contact with. He was and still is an amazing surgeon.

LIFE IS GOOD !!!
on January 29, 2008 2:36 pm

Life is good for me now. I thought I would update my profile for the new year.
It is Jan, 29, 2008 and I am 7 months out from surgery. As of this morning I am down 146 pounds. It is so hard to believe that I have lost that much weight. I have joined a yoga class through the hospital that I had my surgery and have entered a half marathon and 5K run/walk. I will be doing the 5k walk (3.1miles). It is also sponsored by my HMO. It will take place in San Francisco, CA on February 3rd ( super bowl Sunday). We will be walking in Golden Gate Park. I cannot tell you how much life has changed for me since this surgery. It seems like there are no words to describe it. Hoping everyone can feel this in their lifetime.

SIX MONTHS OUT
on December 19, 2007 11:38 am

I cannot believe that it has been six months since I had surgery. As of today I have lost a total of 132 pounds. I lost 45 pre-op and 87 since surgery. My life has changed so much. I feel like I am living life now. I belong to a gym and work out 2 times a day. One year ago I did not even want to walk from my car to my house. I am up to around 4-5 miles a day on the treadmill.  I am so much more happier.  I feel that I am more open with people. Life is good. I thank myself for going through with this surgery and my surgeon, Dr. Baggs without him I do not think this surgery would of been so successful.

UPDATE ON MY JOURNEY
on November 8, 2007 5:30 am
It has been awhile since I updated my profile so I thought I would bring this up to date.
Last night I was weighed in at my support group meeting and I have lost 115 pounds. I had lost 45 pounds before surgery. I am feeling great. I have not had any problems at all. I feel so blessed that I have been problem free.
I am officially a gym club member. I have said that I would never ever join a gym. My oldest son kept telling me that there are all sizes at his gym. He finally convinced me to go with him a few weeks ago. I went and he was right. I was not the largest person there. A few nights ago he asked me to go again and when I walked in door of gym one of the employees came up to me and asked my son if I was his mother. I said yes and introduced myself. He said congratulations and handed me a temp. membership card and told me that my son had put me on his membership. I could not believe it.
My son told me later that he was worried about me walking now that it gets dark so earlier.
I have been going everyone night. So far I just walked on the treadmill. Maybe someday I will venture into the pool.

One Month Check up
on July 21, 2007 3:31 pm
July 21,2007

Saw my surgeon yesterday. He said everything looked great. He asked me if I have had any kind of problems. Looked at my little scars and basically said I looked great. He said my weight lost is right on schedule. I told him that for the past 9 days I had not lost anything and he said the body is trying to catch up with the weight lost. He said that you have lost 65 pounds since March. He said it will start up again and just keep walking like I have been. Today I get on the scale and I am down 2 pounds, go figure. I am so Thankful that I have not had any problems since surgery. I pray everyday that it continues like this.

Had My Sugery
on July 8, 2007 4:01 pm
Hello Everyone,

My surgery went great. They had scheduled my surgery for 1pm so I had to be there at 11am. They took me right back and started prepping me for surgery. Before they even put you in to chair they weigh you to make sure you are still below or at goal weight. I was 15 pounds under goal a total of 45 pounds since March 12th. The Doctor came in and told the nurses to get the IV in me because they were ready for me. I went in at 12:30. Woke up in recovery and looked at the clock it was 3:30. The nurse told me that I had been there an hour and I was ready to go to my room. She said she had asked me acouple of times if I wanted a shot for pain. I told her no, so she asked me again and I told her no. As soon as they got me in my room she told the nurse on the ward that I did not want a shot for pain. She asked me if I wanted to get up and walk and I said yes. So they got me up and I walked around the nurses station and back to my room so they took the catheter out. I stayed in the hospital one night and came home the next afternoon. Everything has been going wonderful.

My Story

August 2006, started my journal with wls. I went to my pcp and had a physical. She talked to me about my weight again. I had not seen her since I gained all the weight back that I had lost on Weight Watchers (70#). I just broke down and told her I can lose the weight, but can not keep the weight off.  She said maybe I needed to talk with someone about it. She sent me to my first psychologists appointment. When I arrived there he seemed confused because he only counsels people who wanted wls. At that time I knew only a little bit about wls. He sent me to a group for women called, Healthy Living For Women and told me that might help. Ha! Ha!. The group had nothing to do with weight issues. So I started looking into wls. The more I read the more I thought this might be for me. In the meantime my pcp had sent a referral to the Bariatric Surgery Hospital within my HMO.  That was at the end of August 06. I was told about the website my HMO had and started going there and reading the stories of the people who were waiting for the surgery and people who already had the surgery. One of them mention this OH sight. They said it was the best sight out there. So I started reading the stories from so many of you since August 06. I was more than thrilled when I found out that there was a group for 50+. I was afraid to start chatting because at the time I did not know whether my HMO was going to approve me. In November they called and said I would have a psych eval. I went to that and they told me it would be four weeks before I heard anything. They assign each patient with their own team. My team would all get together and go over the best way to treat me. I received my approval on Jan 09,07, stating I had an orientation class that I would attend. It will be an all day class. At that time I will learn what I have to do. I will be weighed at that time and that is my start weight. They require that you lose 10% of your weight before you can have the surgery

When I got married I weighed 122# and thought I could lose a few pounds. Then I had my first child and stayed at 150 for several years. I had my second child nine years later and  weighed 232 when I delivered him and keep that weight on for three years. I went on Weight Watchers the first time in 1986 and lost 100#. I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery and the surgeon told me to quit dieting that I did not need to lose anymore weight. Will that was just what I needed to here and gained all the weight back and then some. In 2004 I started back to Weight Watchers and lost 70#. I had a really bad experience there and left. I thought that would be a place you felt protected from the looks and laughs of other people but I was wrong. There were two older women in that group both of them only needed to lose 15#. As alot of you know when you lose 5# at Weight Watchers they give you an award. When I had lost 50# they started in saying my god you have lost 50# meaning and your still that fat. I went to my leader and asked her if she could give me my awards after the meetings because of that. She said no because I was inspiring to so many for losing that amount. She said just to ignore them. Will the night I received my award for losing 70# they both gave out a big laugh. I had to stand up and get the award trying to hold back the tears. I had people coming up to me and telling me not let them bother me, but it did. That was the last night I went to Weight Watchers. I realize now I allowed that to happen to me. I gave myself away that night. I gained backed the 70# and that is when I went to my pcp. I have learned so much from all of you. I hope I can learn alot more and be able to help some of you.
