Surgeon Testimonial

Dieter Pohl, M.D.
Dr. Pohl Rocks.. he is great.. He is straight forward about WLS and what you need to do and why. Has a good support group that all are encouraged to attend. He also encourages you to follow up with your dietician. I found Dr Pohl to be very knowledgable and he has good bedside manners.

My Update 8/24/10
on August 24, 2010 8:04 pm
I celebrated my 5 yr anniversary of my WLS, in the past year I have gained 20 pounds and know I need to keep a handle on this. I haven't been on OH in a while and should be using it as my base. For emotional support and understanding.

Holding steady @ 180
on February 10, 2009 7:20 pm
Last year May of 2008 I had emergency surgery. I had a bowel obstruction, that caused me pain beyond all life.
At first it felt like gas pains then got worse finally was taken to the hospital and 6 hours later was in surgery. I was very lucky
and didn't loose any portion of my intestins. My weight at first dropped to 170's lbs then I gained.. I got up to 194 lbs.. then kicked myself into gear began to work out and eat better.. my weight is back to 180 lb and holding.. now will begin to work on dropping below 180

Random Thoughts
on October 31, 2006 3:42 pm
I watched Oprah the other day with a few women who had WLS.. they made it sound so bad..  One became addicted to sex... my thought was loving that when I was oh so fluffy and it hadn't changed any for me... the Other drank like a fish..  My thought I drank before.. will have a drink here and there but was afraid of being an alcoholic before and still am.. a bit of family history there. So I don't over indulge.   Then I thought did these women attend any type of therapy? I was in group for a few months and have since gone back from time to time (  my bat wings were bugging me)   May God Bless them and help them...

My Story

I have been over weight for such a long time, although It never bothered me to be a full figured woman. I did try many diets to lose weight.. but not for vanity, it was concern for my health. I had 3  strikes against me for many health problems. 1. being family history.. both sides of my family had HTN; and my fathers side has Diabeties, and CVA's.    2. I was obese and  3. I am a woman of color... I can't do much about family history or My race.. but sure as H*ll I could do something about my weight. My PCP at first wasn't crazy about WLS and wanted me to lose it the old fashion way. After watching me for years go from program to program, and reading up on it she came to the same conclusion I did. My physical in 2004 she passed me a paper with a surgeons name on it.. saying she did research and thought it may be good for me to look into. My Response was that I had an appointment with DR. Pohl the next day and just wanted her to be aware of it. August 2005 I weighed 336lbs. On the 23rd of that month my new life began. I praise the Lord my God That I have been lucky enough to not have had complications and smart enough to realise I still need my support group and at times Therapy. Not liking my bat wings...lol  but who does? working toward having them fixed..   wish me luck!!
