Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas Clark
My first impression of Dr. Clark is that he truly cares about his patients and wants us to become healthier and happier people. He outlines all the risks and benefits and will answer any question you have. He stresses that aftercare is extremely important to our success after WLS. So far I am extremely pleased with him and the WLS program is very well organized. His office staff are friendly and professional and always there for you when you have a question or a problem. rnrnDr. Clark, is one of the BEST Surgeons. Low Complication rates, Successful patients, fantastic support team. Awesome office staff. He doesn't to Laproscopic, but he makes the timiest 3 1/2 inch incison. He's awesome. Hi Jane, I just want to thank you for your candid posts and for the photos that you've so graciously shared with all of us. I'm having an abdominal lipectomy in two days and it's given me a true view of what I can expect. Hope you are feeling better about your surgery. I'll bet that they're right and that once your swelling has subsided you'll be very satisfied. Thanks again, Julie

Lexington Convention Review!!!
on October 30, 2006 6:06 am

Well, It was a blast! I had the absolute best time. It was nice to get away with my girlfriends and let down my hair and forget all the crappy things that have happened to me this year.  Leilani, Tinerbelle, Patty(PS in VA)were my buds this weekend. We did just about everything together and they are truly my sisters and I love them.

So here's the review part.

Hotel gets  an "8" for cleanliness, "9" for service, "6' for Facilities. Mainly because the pool and hot tub should have been open later than 11 pm. Come on it's a convention hotel. Most people don't get back from dinner til 9:30-10 o'clock.  The food in the main restaurant was "ok". They scorched my steak, which made it unedible. $24 bucks for a ribeye was ridiculous. 1 egg and 2 pieces of toast were $8 bucks. Highway robbery at it's best.

The conference itself was well run. Lots of very informative classes. Way Too much Lapband stuff though. Sorry, not a fan of the Lapband. Think it's just a waste of time for folks that have food behavioral issues. It doesn't do anything to change those habits. Besides why would I pay all that money to have something done that eventually would either A) have to be replaced because of erosion or b)something I could easily outeat by drinking high calorie liquids. I only know a handful of truly successful Lapbanders. Kudos to them, cause' its not easy. But I think that eventually they are doomed to fail and regain. I've seen it happen even in my own surgical group (my docs partner does LapBand). They get frustrated because they are just not loosing. Sorry I got off subjsect there....anywhoo, the classes were informative. I attended Dex's Men's Group. I think women would benefit from this class too. The handouts are excellent and Dex is a charismatic speaker and worth your time to see him. So if you have a chance, go!

Met lots of folks. I've known people for over 5 years and it was great to finally meet them face to face. Some people were not what I expected in that there online personality is much different than in person. Loris B was a real surprise! I was thinking Van-driving soccer mom. She's not like that in the least. Becky Sue is awesome and we have a lot in common. Hung out with her and Tooter, Leilani, Patti S and Tink, Tim, STLCardsFan, and a bunch of others the last night. Awesome time, Awesome People. Met kindred spirits and friends for life.

the highlights of my trip (in no particular order)

1. Meeting Dana Barr, 6 yr post-op. My personal hero.
2. Meeting Stalker Val, Sweetest lady on earth. Needs all the luck she can get.
3.Meeting DX e (Dex) and attending his class). We had great dinner conversation and he's just as smart and witty in person.
4. The Costume Ball. Best Fun I've had in years!
5. Free AchieveOnes! That  Stuff is crack.
6. Hanging out with my favorite girlfriends Lei, Tink and PS in VA. They are made of gold!
7. Hanging out at the martini bar.
8. Meeting the "men" from the Men's Board. You guys are great and I'm so proud of you!
9. Meeting Melissa Mermaid! She's awesome!
10. The gay club was interesting. But will let the details of that night stay out of this review. (hehe)

Speaking of Conferences!!!
Can't wait for the Richmond, Va Conference in January 07'. There will be alot more men there Ladies! No, it's no associated with OH but with another group. Alot of the people coming are from here though. go to stapledup.com (David Becker's Site) for details. This conference may seem pricey but it includes a spread of food. I'm not talking box lunches and salad bar folks. But Real, Hot, Delicious Food. 3 Meals! Includes everything. There's also going to be a Disco Ball!

Also ,There will be an OH conference in November 2007 in Virginia Beach. I'll be working on that. I'm looking for vendors to attend, so shoot me an email if your interested in vending your product.

Smoke free
on October 25, 2006 6:40 am
I'm now officially 1 week smoke free. It wasn't easy. I'm still using nocotine gum when I have that urge to smoke but I'm glad I have finally done it. My dad and my aunt Joyce died of Lung cancer in the past year. It was a real wake-up call for me. I wanna live along time and be there for my son. Smoking is bad fo everything. Your skin, the smell, your health. If you smoke, quit! Really, the first 3 or 4 days are rough but it gets better everyday. Besides who wants to be a slave to the ciggy. I was always thinking about when I was gonna get my next one. Not anymore. Besides, I smell infinitely better. I washed any coat, jacket etc that I had to get the smell out. why did I ever start back up again? Stress is just not a good excuse.

So quit People!!!!!

My Plastic Surgery Pre-Op Was Today!
on October 24, 2006 2:36 pm
Well, I'm still having surgery on November 6th as long as my blood levels come back good. I do have a little wheezing from my allergies that concerned him. I've had that for awhile now. It's a good thing I quit smoking. Yeah, I'm a week smoke -free!

So I'm getting a Fleur-d-lys Abdominoplasty. It's really gonna give me the best results, of course I'm gonna have a huge scar. But it's the price you pay...mine is costing  me $16,700!!(Yikes!!!)

As for impants, I'm going with 400 cc's. I actually look much smaller than I am. I wear a 36 c. but people tell me all the time I'm a A or even barely that. It's because I have a protruding chest bone. So with 400cc's I'll be a "d" cup but probally won't look like one. I'm happy with my choice. Saline too. Silicone scares the crap out of me. So much we don't know. At least saline is absorbed back into the body.

Well, two days to Lexington. Trying to get this costume fixed. I hate having such a disproportionate body. I have to take the waist in 3 inches. It stinks cause it means I got rip out the zipper. Hate zippers.Urgh....

Well, see you in Lexi my friends, It's gonna be a blast!!!

I'll leave you something to curb your appetite.

So Whadya Want to Do with your Life!
on October 20, 2006 4:22 am
Remember that Twisted Sister Video? It's something I've been struggling with lately. What direction am I headed in? Yes, I'm almost done with school, I have to study for my coders exam, so besides a career, what are my plans. I have no idea at this point. I'm seriously considering moving to Massachussetts to be closer to my relatives up there, but I also don't want to leave my mom. We are pretty much all we have. My brother is too busy and wrapped up in his life, We rarely see him. It's not all his fault. He's a cop on Midnights and works part-time at Walmart doing armed security. But he rarely sees mom and that's hurtful. After Joe died, he hardly called, never came over. Mom was really upset. I told him that he needs to reconnect wiht the family and that distancing himself with poor excuses was not acceptable. We are very different people.

MY RANT: POLITICIANS ARE ALL CROOKS AND LIARS
I'm actually going to discuss my political views, so watch out! I'm a hippy, I admit it. I'm liberal in thought and life. I believe in the good in people unless they show me otherwise. I'm fairly laid back and believe in creative self-discovery. I don't like the government controlling my life when it comes to morals, I think that's something that everyone has to uphold for themselves.   Yeah, I'm a libertarian, not a Democrat, though that's usually how I have to vote, since there are not many of us. I have standards though, but generally I think most politicuans are crooks, doesn't matter what party affiliation. This whole election, especially in Virginia is getting nasty and leaving a bad taste in my mouth. For the first time, I may not be voting. I'm having surgery the day before and probally won't be able to physically make it to the polls. I ususlly vote for the lesser of two evils.

As for Bush. God, what a total reckless idiot. Now, I'm a military brat. My family has a long military history going back to the French & Indian War. I've had ancestors fighting for freedom since they landed her in 1618. The Justice family (My maiden name) has been here that long. The Ward family came here in 1719 and all fought in the Revolutionary and Civil War. My grandpa Williams fought as a tailgunner in WWII and was rightly honored for his bravery. My dad was in Vietnam. My brother fought in the latest War in Iraq.  We believe in doing the right thing and serving our country. What is happening now is disturbing. Bush has used soldiers for his own political and yes, people...financial gain. He's raping our young soldiers lives. I volunteer at the VA hospital. I can't tell you how many young men and even women are coming home with missing limbs, brain injuries and shattered lives. They are disillusioned with everything going on. Alot of them who were once staunch repubicans are now rethinking there political association. Why? Because we don't belong there. Iraq was yes, run by a political dictator but they were a modern, sovereign nation that we invaded for oil, revenge and a President who made the decsion to invade them before he was even president. 9-11 was just an excuse. I met a man the other day that lost both his legs in a roadside bomb. His life was in turmoil. He has to learn to live with his disability, his wife left him and the government wants him to pay back the two months pay he received while at a hospital in D.C. What? Pay back money? It's insane. The man gave up everything for the government and this is how they repay him? It's very upsetting. Most civilians have no idea whats really going on, and from what I gather they really don't seem to care. People are so wrapped up in their petty problems, that they forget the little guy. Don't forget about them, they need us and guess what we need them too.
