2 Years Already? Also known as: Ferritin tanking?

Feb 07, 2009

Hello all!
I had my two year visit yesterday. Everything is copacetic...nothing to worry or complain about...well, nothing serious, at least...not yet.

However, I did learn that although the lion's share of my vitamin and mineral levels are fantastic...my ferritin levels are tanking, and quick!
At my last visit (18 months), I had a student-doctor go over my labs. She said that my levels all looked fine...no mention of my sinking iron-store levels. Apparently, my levels have gone from 60 @ one year, to 20 @ 18 months, to 7 @ 2 years. I am a bit concerned, to say the least.

So, I have made an appointment with my Gyn on the 23rd to see whether it would be prudent to have an endometrial ablation or just go for broke and take this useless uterus out. It has been causing me nothing but problems since I began menstruating @ age 9. I think I've done my time. Also, we aren't having anymore children, so this uterus is more trouble than it's worth.

Outside of this issue, I have been told that I'm doing everything (yeah, right! lol) right and to not change a thing...other than to amp up my iron intake by about 20 fold and to follow up with my Gyn and PCP for an iron level in 6 months.

On a lighter note... I got to see a nifty pic of my umbilical hernia. What a beautiful sight. LOL. That will not get repaired until plastics or it begins causing problems, whichever comes first. I also got to gander at my pre-op pic taken by the practice. OMG!!! It is horrible!!! The PA said "the she" in that pic could be my great-aunt. Thanks a lot. I like this "she" a lot better! I'll post a new pic most likely early next week.
