Surgeon Testimonial

Armando Joya
I arrived in PV and had my lap-RNY on April 20, 2007. This well organized surgery package is so wonderful. From the moment I landed in Mexico to the day I returned home, I knew that I was in very good hands. Dr. Joya represents the right combination of surgical expertise and good bedside manner. In fact, his entire team of staff, physicians, and nurses were simply terrific. I highly recommend this surgery package to anyone who must self pay, or to anyone who is tired of fighting their insurance companies. The four days at the hospital went by quickly, and the nursing staff always took care of my requests (everything from more pain medicine to more pillows). The NH Krystal is beautiful and a great place to walk as a new post-op. I am planning to return to PV in December to enjoy PV in my new body. Saludos!

1 year Post-Op!!
on May 15, 2008 1:08 pm

Hi everyone! Just a 1-year post op update. I'm maintaining at around 180-185 lbs and doing great. I could lose more if I exercised, and I am determined to get back into my routine again. I am changing jobs and moving to Milwaukee at the end of May, so this is a super busy time. I am happy and healthy and thankful for every single day!  I am in a great relationship now, my best friend in the world. Wishing all of you the very best, Elaine  PS -- I will post my new pics asap!

I'm down to 210 lbs now (and I still have 4 days til my 3 month surgiversary). I'll be flying to Ohio to visit family this week. It will be interesting to hear their reactions. I haven't seen them for over a year (and about 50 lbs).

2 months post op!
on June 21, 2007 10:27 am
I can't believe it has been 2 months! I'm also happy to report that my weight dropped another 2 lbs, so I'm at 217 lbs today. I can't believe that the weight is still dropping. I guess I keep thinking, "anyday its going to stop working and I'll gain it all back" -- in spite of the few calories I consume each day.

Last night I tried to eat a salad. I did okay, but I stopped after a few bites so I could try a piece of steak. I did okay with a couple tiny bites (chewing really really well), but later I threw up a little. I think the steak stayed down, so I'm glad to get the protein to stay down.

Otherwise, my energy is much better these days, but I still need a lot of sleep at night. I am having a lot of vivid dreams lately.

My Story

I am 35 years old, 5'9", and I have been fat since 3rd grade. My current weight is around 270 lbs, and I was recently told that I was prediabetic. As most of the women on this site, I have succeeded in losing weight in the past through dieting (all the usual suspects) and exercise, only to put the weight back on with a little extra each time. A few years ago, I went on a very restricted low calorie diet (basically starving myself) and lost a lot of weight very quickly (I got down to 175 lbs; size 10 pants and medium tops). I lost the weight so fast that I had to have my gallbladder removed. Now I am almost back to my heaviest weight (284), and I need new tools to fight this battle. I am ready to start this new journey.

I have been thinking about and researching WLS for years now. Recently, I decided to begin exploring self-pay options more seriously, and I finally found a surgeon at a price I can afford. I am planning to have my surgery with Dr. Joya in Mexico as soon as my passport arrives.

I am so tired of not being able to wear the clothes that express my personality. I quit clothes shopping months ago, and I refuse to buy anything else until I drop some of this weight. I would love to make some new friends here - people who understand what I am going through. I have chosen to have the lap-RNY in Mexico. Why? So I can be comfortable in my own skin for the first time in my adult life.

If anyone is interested in corresponding with me, I'd love to hear from you!

Love and blessings
