Got my consultation appointment

Apr 23, 2014

May 8th.  It sounds so far away even though it's only 2 weeks away.  They told me it's going to be a long appointment because they also schedule my consultation with the nutritionist and I think also the psychiatrist? I'm not sure but it's going to take around 3 hours.  I told my boss today about everything that's going on so that she can expect me to have a lot of schedule changes and PTO requests for doctor appointments.  I also advised her that I'm going to need at least 2 weeks after the surgery for recovery.  She told me to apply for FMLA when the time comes and asked me questions about the VSG.  She showed more interest than any of my friends or family have thus far.  Besides my mom I've also told my sister and 2 of my close friends.  My best friend asked questions about it and told me she supports me but didn't sound very enthusiastic or excited for me.  My sister just kind of shrugged it off and changed the subject (she's pretty self centered) and my other friend felt the need to tell me about an aunt of his that had the RNY and now she has tons of excess skin.  Where is all the support?!?!

Thank God I have my boyfriend.  We've been together 4 years and he's seen me through all my diet attempts, exercise attempts, weight loss and weight gain.  He's seen me get excited when the scale shows that I've lost 2 pounds and he's seen me crumble to the floor and cry when the scale shows that I  gained 10 pounds.  He's seen me turn down outside activity and concerts due to the fear of getting tired and out of breath.  When I told him about my interest in WLS he showed full support and he's rooting for me.

For anyone who reads this who has gone through the pre-op diet and post-op diet can you please leave me some tips on how to make protein shakes taste good?  I've tried protein shakes in the past (one of my many low carb diet attempts) and I could never get over the taste.  Any advice is appreciated.
