6 weeks and counting
on July 24, 2012 3:17 am
Finally!!  I can say I'm glad I've had this done. The first few weeks have been really difficult. My acid reflux was so
bad that I was beginning to feel like I would have to feel nauseous for the rest of my life.  Within the past week though I can tell a big difference and a few days I have even forgotten it was ever an issue. Hunger has been no big issue, although as my calories have crept up to about 600 a day (how can so little sound like too much) I guess I am pretty satisfied.  I am beginning to want to find more variety to add into my meals.  Eggs and cheese have been a big staple but I'm afraid too much cheese could be why I've been in a stall for over a week.  I'm trying to watch that now.  Since my highest weight in January, I have lost 44 lbs. Nothing to be ashamed of!!!  Since surgery I am down right at 20 lbs.  This is definitely a journey, but one that seems to be very much worth it.

My Journey Thus Far
on June 21, 2012 9:03 am
Well here is my story for information sake only.  I am still learning each day and meditating on all I've undertaken, but not making any judgements.
I had my surgery, VSG, on Tuesday, June 12th. I was first up on the schedule and ready to go asleep and wake up a new me.  I woke up fairly easily really feeling no sickness.  Saw the doc and he said surgery went very well and he had only make two holes!  Yippee for me!  Well, as the evening progressed I noticed I was sweating profusely and not feeling very well.  My bladder almost stopped working and my pulse rate bottomed out.  Doc ordered 3 pints of blood which helped some with my overall bad feeling.  They had to put in a catheter for my bladder.  They also put in a heart monitor because of the pulse rate. Next morning things went fairly slowly but I was high on morphine and very loopy Doc told them to take out the pain pump and I have very little memory of that day.  By day three I'm still not having much energy and my pulse is staying close to the 30's when I'm at rest and moving into 60's when I get up.  Later in the day I asked about if I should be getting my Thyroid med?  BINGO, I had been practically 3 days without and my body was wacked out.  Took about three days for it to get me more closely regulated.  Following heart scan and cathetar removal, I finally went home a week later on June 19th.

Was it a mistake on someone's part?  Possibly.  But I feel it had more to do with my being in there longer than a normal VSG patient and no one thought about the Thyroid med.  I'm not angy with anyone.  In fact, all the staff of the hospital were very caring and concerned about getting me where I needed to be. I have a LOT of fluid to lose now so I'm not watching the scale ( I lie, I am but I know why it is where it is).  I KNOW that in at least a month I'll see BIG differences.

Feeling the best today yet and have even had a cheese stick, YUM!   More to come.

15 days
on May 27, 2012 6:35 pm
15 days and counting until Surgery Day.  I'm anxious for it to be here.  I am a teacher and will be working up
until the day before surgery.  Things will be very busy so I know the time will go by quickly.  Just hoping I can
get everything finished up at school in time.

My Story

I've been overweight all my life. Although, at times I was not as big as I thought I was.  In high school I remember
being around  160 and feeling so huge.  Now, I know that I should have learned then how to eat right and move right
in order to keep from being even more overweight.  College life was fun and I made some really great life long friends who
I still see yearly or more.  In fact we go to the beach together each summer.  I remember feeling I was the largest one
there during my college days, I think I was between 160-180 then.  Now I look at pictures of myself then and wish I
was that size.  Married life followed shortly after college and I was a proud size 18 bride. I guess being married really
made me fat because I remember clothes I bought for my honeymoon not fitting about a month after my honeymoon.
When I was pregnant with my first child I gained about 70 pounds and did not lose much of it after.  I did go to Physicians
Weight Loss about 2 years later before I had my second child and lost about 40 lbs.  Then I regained it all back and more
with my second pregnancy.  From there my weight seemed to just ease up to around 270.  I would lose 10 or 20 each year
beginning in January only to regain it all back by December.  This December my weight crept up close to 300 and I decided
I had to make a life change.  I attended a WLS seminar thinking I would like to do a LapBand.  That is where I learned about
the VSG and started researching it.  Because I did not want the issues of dealing with the port and adjustments of the band
I decided on VSG.  I feel confident about my decision, even though sometimes I wonder if I'll ever "miss" eating until my
plate is empty.  I come back here and read time and time again about those who have had the surgery and say it is the best
decision of their lives.  In about 15 days I'll begin the journey.  Praying I'll be joining others in saying it is the best decision
of my life.
