Surgeon Testimonial

Marcus Miller, M.D.
What was your first impression of him/her? I liked him immediately.rnHow did your impression change over time? Stayed the same for over 2 yrs now. He's cool and very patient friendly.rnHow would you describe his/her office staff? We got off to a rough start. I had to do a lot of management and follow up to get things done for me. I felt that I should have been paid for the work I did to arrange my own appointments, follow up on paperwork, etc. In the end, even with the hassles, it was worth it. You have to be very organize to get positive results in a timely manner. I excel at that, but not everyone does. Oh well. I can be very driven when I want something done. My advice is to know exactly who is doing what, when and how they are doing and keep notes, and you'll be fine.rnWhat did you like least about him/her? I only hate the location on the westside of town because I live on the eastside.rnWhat should future patients know about him/her? He is very good. Do what he says, and your results will the expected barring any uncontrollable factors. Control what you can to minimizee setbacks and risks. [That is good advice for anything in life, not just Bariatric Surgery!]rnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? He is very passionate relying on you to do what you should to help yourself be better. I'm glad he was not a crutch. I needed an expert who gave me advice, not another crutch.rnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? YesrnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery? Matter of factly and I really liked that. I felt he did not try to glamorize it. We set realistic goals, and I made a mental notes to prove that I could do better than goal. BTW: I did do better LOL!rnHow would you rate him/her overall? On a scale of 1(worse) - 10 (best), he is a 10.rnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Both are great.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I am an expert at losing weight. I have done it 4x prior to WLS, but I always gained it back and more. I woudl get tired of the bsttle to fight the hunger, saying No, Thank you to the foods I loved, and generally feeling like life is so unfair that I can't be like the "skinny people." So after a year or two, I would stop fighting and eat again. I think I really felt a "high" from the food, then got depressed as I got bigger. I made defeat easier by saying "I'm meant to be big." Imagine saying that about cancer or some other horrible disease that is killing you? "Oh, I'm meant to die like this." What a load of junk to sell to yourself!

Wow! A little over 1 year post surgery and I am past...
on December 30, 2008 8:29 pm
Its been a while since I have visited this site.  Almost 1 year since I joined.  i weigh 155 lbs now.  My goal was 170 lbs.  Obviously I've blown way past it.  Yipee for me.  I'm trying to maintain now.  Believe it or not, that's way harder.  I exercise every day for 1.25 hours.  I walk my dog for .5 hour, then do aerobic exercise on a ball for the other hour.  It is so routine, I do it without thinking now.  I think for 2009, I will try out for a marathon.

My Story

I am an expert at losing wieght. I've done it 4 times before. The problem is keeping it off. The RNY is my way to stop the insanity. I'm more confident that I have the support and maturity to lose it, keep it off and stay away from people who don't have my best interests in mind...including the "bad me." My surgery date was 11/9/2007. Watch me lose it and keep it off. Inspire me and help me. That's why we are here.
