About 3 Months Post-Op
on October 18, 2011 4:19 pm
It's about 3 months since I had surgery and all I can say is WOW!!! Can believe the change in such a short amount of time.  I have changed so much since then physically, mentally, and emotionally.  The physical appearence is a big one. Since being down 76 lbs since surgery and 109.5 since May.  I returned to work at the end of September and so many people were giving me compliments.  This was a welcomed change and so different. Some people didn't know it was me and didn't relize that I had surgery.  Not to mention that I can not remember when my own self-confidence and self-worth has been this high.  Truly a good feeling.

9 Almost 10 Weeks Post-OP
on October 4, 2011 3:26 pm
Wow, has my life changed in such a short amount of time.  Having Bariatric surgery has been one of the best decisions of my life.  In the short amount of time being post-op I have dropped 67.6 lbs and 101.1 lbs since May.  It's crazy and surreal to me.  I see the new me in the mirror and can't get over this is really me.  I don't remember the last time I looked like this.  I have been getting compliments from everyone and that;s cool but the most important thing to me right now is how healthy and energetic I feel.  I feel amazing. Not to mention it's nice to go into a store and buy off the rack now.  I'm down 3 shirt and 3 pant sizes.  To some people that may not be much but it is.  I'm so happy I got this tool to help me into a healthy life. I've had a great support team to .  Things couldn't be much better than they are right now.

Approval and Surgery Date (Finally)
on July 4, 2011 7:07 pm
It's been a crazy couple of weeks. However, I did receive a notice from my insurance company stating that they had approved me for gastric bypass surgery.  After reading this letter I went through a bunch of emotions the next few days from being super excited to nervous and scared since this will be my first type of surgery.  The bariatric center called the following week and setup my surgery date.  I'm going to be having the roux-en-y done on Thursday, July 28th. I just don't know what to say still!!!!

Getting Closer
on June 8, 2011 3:35 pm
Just had my 6 month appointment in the Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery Program.  It went very well.  I'm starting to like getting weighed in.  Especially since I've been losing weight.  Lost another 11 lbs.  for a total of 31.5 since April 29th.  Met with the dietician again to go over pre and post op choices.  Also got the UNJURY protein for my 9 day liquid diet once we get the approval.  Got a call on Tuesday saying they are sending in my letter of medical neccessity to the insurance company and it should take about 2 weeks before I hear from them.  What to do while I wait?????

Patiently Waiting
on June 2, 2011 9:10 am
I'm in the Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery program at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY.  I've been in the program since January and I have my 6 month appointmen coming up on Monday the 6rh.  After this appointment they will be subimitting the paperwork to the insurance company and if all goes well I should be getting a call with a surgery date.  Since the start of the program I weighed 368.5 which is my highest and since being in the program I've dropped down to 341.  I'm going to be having the RNY Gastric Bypass done.  I'm getting very excited knowing that this is most likely going to happen and I'n anxious too, not knowing when.

My Story

Where to start. Well I've been on the "heavier" side most of my life from childhood up to now.  Even when I didn't think I was that big I was constantly reminded that I was by people in school.  Over the years I've tried diet after diet with minimal success only to see the weight that I lost be put back on and then some. It's always been like that. I needed the extra help that bariatric surgery provides. I looked into surgery after being sick most of last summer and having a TIA (mini-stroke) got me more motivated than ever. I'm only 31 years old and this should not be happening to me at this age.  I went to my first informational meeting in December of 2010 and made the decision that I need to do this before anything worse happens.  I started the program in January.  Throughout I had my ups and downs and in late April at my 4 month appointment I weighed in at the heaviest of my life, 368.5 lbs.  Over the next month I was able to lose some weight and come June I was approved and given the go ahead for surgery by the insurance company.  My surgery was on July 28th (the beginning of a new healthier and happier life).  At the time of surgery I was able to get down to 321 lbs. I've continued to lose weight after surgery and currently I weigh 290 lbs.  The time that I got on the scale and saw that I was under 300 lbs. I cried.  I never thought that I would ever see the day that I would be under 300.  It has been a good 8-10 years since I've been that. I feel great my sleep apnea has resolved, my hypertension has improved tremendously. I may not need to be on blood pressure medicine much longer. No more back pain. I feel great!!!!
