Surgeon Testimonial

Hanafy M Hanafy, M.D., F.A.C.S.
I had my Lap Band surgery with Dr. Hanafy on October 19th 2007. Everything went very well with no complications. Dr. Hanafy made me feel very comfortable and he has a good sense of humor. He explained everything to me in great detail and he is very thorough... which I can appreciate. I was very confident with him doing my surgery. His office has a great aftercare program that seems very detailed and dedicated to helping their patients be successful with their weightloss. The only negative thing I can think of is the front desk staff doesn't really seem like they have it together. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hanafy to do your weightloss surgery!

My lap band has been removed.
on April 12, 2012 4:17 pm
It has been about 4 1/2yrs since I posted anything on this page. I had some success with the band but not even close to what I was expecting. I had my daughter in 2010 which is such a blessing and now I've had my band removed. I started getting really really sick in the middle of January, as soon as food hit my stomach I felt sick. I had my band completely emptied and went for an upper GI.... Everything looked normal. The next dayi ended up in the ER in extreme pain and severely dehydrated, they kept me over night. The following week went like this... Monday ultrasound, Tuesday hidascan, Wednesday back in the ER, Thursday endoscopy, Friday another trip to the ER for esophageal spasms. Outcome was severe gastritis in my pouch only! My band surgeon did not and would not accept that my gastritis and my band had to be related. Two weeks later I followed up with him still not being able to eat mind you. After a brief meeting with him while I was in tears he laughed in my face. I was done with him. I continued with my meds for gastritis hoping it would get better all the while researching where else to go to get this thing removed. I am self pay, my insurance refuses to have anything to do with weightloss surgery. I went about 1 month before I had another severe attack that ended me back in the ER, but this time I went to Swedish medical center... One of the best in Seattle. After an EKG and CT Scan the PA from the bariatric office met with me. She agreed the band had to come out ASAP. So here I am sitting here writing this exactly two weeks from that last ER visit without my band. It's been two days since surgery and I'm feeling pretty good. Dr. McMahon and his staff are amazing, I had no slippage or erosion but he said my band was so tight he had to cut it into 3 pieces to get it out!so glad its gone!!!

13 Days Post Op

I can't believe tomorrow will be 2 weeks since I got my band. Now that I'm feeling better... geez how time flies. I went for my follow up appointment last tuesday and everything looked good. I did mention I was having a lot of tightness and pain in my chest when I would take deep breaths. My surgeon sent me straight to radiology for chest x-rays to rule out blood clots..... Good news got the results today..... NEGATIVE!!! must just be tight muscles which makes sense, but better to be safe then sorry. Everyday I am feeling better and my energy is starting to come back although I still get tired quickly. I'm on the pureed stage of my diet which is a lot better than liquids, but I can't wait to move onto soft foods on sunday. Anyways, that's all for now............

1 Week Post Op!
on October 26, 2007 9:58 am
Today I am 1 week post op! I can't believe my band is already a week old... boy how time really does fly. I'm feeling great besides the hunger I've been feeling... 2 more days and I can move on to mushies..... I can't wait to have something with a little substance. I am happy to say that I've lost 11 lbs since surgery! I know that a lot of that is probably water weight and that I might gain once I can actually get to eat again, but at any rate it still feels pretty good. So since I started this whole process I've lost a total of 25lbs!

I'm 5 days post op now and still can't believe how well I'm feeling. I do get tired quickly if I'm up and around too much. So far I'm so glad that I made the decision to do this. I got on the scale yesterday and I've lost 8lbs since surgery, so all in all I've lost a total of 22lbs including the pre op dieting I had to do. Its been years since I've done something and lost 22lbs..... I'm so excited!

My Story

Ok, so here's my story..... I'm 30 years old, married to a wonderful man, and have a 7 year old jack russell terrier who I adore. I live about 20 minutes south of seattle and own my own skincare business. Anyways, my struggle with my weight started when I was about 7 and has been with me ever since. I went on my 1st diet (nutri system) when I was 10. I lost a lot of weight, but come on I was 10..... I didn't know what I was doing, so naturally I gained it back and then some. That was the beginning of my dieting life! From then on it was COUNTLESS attempts at every diet out there Jenny Craig, Nutri-System (again) Weight Watchers (multiple times), Adkins, Slim Fast, The Zone, metabolife, herbalife, Dr. prescribed Phentramine and Xenical (now Alli) you name it I've done it!  Well I'm ready for a change...... I'm jumping on the "band" wagon as of October 19, 2007 and I couldn't be more excited about it! I can't wait to start living the rest of my life.......
