Surgeon Testimonial

Marek Lutrzykowski, M.D.
I was immediately put at ease after meeting Dr. L. I was nervous walking into his office, probably from not knowing what to expect but those feelings quickly left. He went over the surgery in detail, asked me why I chose DS over RNY and said that I had chose the DS for the right reasons. He answered all of our questions thoroughly and spent a great deal of time with us going through all of my paperwork thoroughly. His staff is great! Very friendly, welcoming and easy to talk to.

Endoscopy issues...
on December 17, 2006 8:32 am
I went to my GP with all of Dr. L's required tests.  When I told him of the need for an endoscopy he kind of laughed and said that will take until summer of 2007 before you will get in for that.  He wanted to know if an Upper GI would suffice and I couldn't be sure.  So I called Julie at Dr. L's and she said she'd talk to him about it and give me a call back the next day.  Turns out he'll take the Upper GI... yay!

I also talked to my GP about the need for a PPI.  He said that Nexium probably wouldn't be approved by my drug benefits since I have to show that others wouldn't work before they'd pay for Nexium.  I said I didn't think it specifically had to be Nexium, just a brand of PPI to which he mentioned Losec.  I've been on Losec before and said I'm sure it would be fine.   Unfortunately it was a bit of a crazy appointment because I had both kids with me for checkups as well and in the end he forgot to give me a prescription for the Losec.  So now I have to go back... yeah, fun.

He gave me an EKG there in the office and said it looks normal.  He did prescribe a test where I need to wear a Holter monitor to diagose my irregular heartbeat.  I'm not sure what will become of that yet along with all the long list of other tests I'm going to be booking on Monday.

Surgeon's Consult
on December 11, 2006 8:36 pm
I was quite nervous going to meet Dr. L today.  Not really sure why, I guess I just have a generalized fear of the unknown.  Stephen came with me as there was a lot of information that he needed to hear as well.  The drive over was terrible and I had to call Elizabeth to tell her that we were going to be late.  We got tied up at the border and sat in a lane for over 20 minutes while the border patrol inspected everything.  He even opened my purse to look inside!  In all the years that I've been crossing the Windsor/Detroit border I have never had that happen to me.  It's just my dumb luck that it happens on a day when I NEEDED to be someplace at a particular time.  Thankfully the highway was really moving well and we made good time.

The meeting with Dr. L went really well, about as well as can be expected.  He was very informative, answered all of our questions thoroughly and most importantly he put both of us at ease.  During his physical exam he found that I have a heart arrhythmia.  I've never been diagnosed with one before but I did know that I had palpitations now and again.   So to my list of tests he added an EKG and a chest xray.  In all I have to have a complete blood analysis, including vitamin and mineral levels.  I also have to have an endoscopy, an EKG, chest xray and a bone density scan.  We didn't end up setting up a surgery date because I'm unsure how long it's going to take to get all of the tests done here in Canada and they wanted to try and put me into a cancellation in January.  I pretty much know that I wouldn't have them done by them, especially since the holidays are coming up.  So in the end Julie asked that I call her and let her know when I am scheduled for the endoscopy (which is the one that will likely have the longest waiting list) and we'll set up a date then.

He also gave me samples of Nexium and wanted me to start taking one pill daily.  So I am off to my GP's later this week with the list of tests and Dr. L's desire for me to start taking some sort of PPI medication due to my reoccuring heartburn.  Dr. L also wants me to stop taking my birth control pills as it can cause clotting issues.  No problem there, I didn't really want to be on them anyways.  Stephen has had a vasectomy so there is no need to worry about birth control.  Anyways, that's all for now.... I'll update after seeing my GP and what he makes of my arrhythmia.

OMG .... I'm APPROVED!!!
on December 1, 2006 9:14 am
I can't believe it!  It's all happening so quickly.  I faxed my application off to OHIP on November 21st.  Yesterday Julie called me from Dr. L's office and said that she had received the approval notification!  So it only took 9 days!!!   I actually mailed a hard copy with the original application with the physcians signature on it and I did that a few days after faxing in my application.  It probably hasn't even arrived yet and I already have my approval.  Gosh I am so in shock right now! I go see Dr. L on December 11th.  only 10 days from now!
