Went to see my Surgeon and Nutrionist
on April 28, 2008 4:52 pm
Well I went to see my Physician today and it was a great visit.  I took two big black trash bags full of clothes..some never worn.  One of his receptionist had this surgery one week before me.  His girls saved my life during those 45 long days in the hospital.  Small way to say "Thank you".  Well I've lost 100 lbs. and I feel great....don't know about my labs yet but I am hoping all is well.  It appears that I will be getting a permanant feeding tube in my stomach to replace the one that is there.  I have what they call "Atypical Dumping"  and I need the tube to supplement several times a week.  I don't care because I would do this again in a heartbeat.  I can breathe, walk, run and do things I have never been able to do.  I even do my elliptical 2 miles every day.  I hated PE in school and never exercised.  But I love it now.  It's better than breathing a "prozac spray"!  Such a wonderful feeling

My History
on April 7, 2008 3:01 pm

As of November 26th I had my Lap RNY...I went home the next day feeling fine.  The next 7 days were great...then all *** broke loose.  Nothing by mouth would stay down or go straight through.  I tried for several days and finally called the Dr.  Of course I was dehydrated and they stuck me in the hospital.  They treated me for a bacterial infection.  Stayed there 7 days then home for 2 before I was back in.  I was in the hospital 45 days......I don't even remember Christmas or New Years.  They could not find what the problem was.  One night in January I crashed and don't remember anything until the next morning.  When my Dr. came in I said "I want to sign my DNR papers and let me go home and die."  That afternoon he and his staff came in and told me they were going to put a feeding tube in and I WAS going to live.  One week after inserting the tube  I was home.  I am just now beginning to feel somewhat normal and its the middle of April.  I lost alot of muscle while laying in the hospital.  I still use the feeding tube because I have "atypical dumping"  you can dump on any and everything.  I may have this tube for a couple of years but I don't care....it saved my life.

on November 1, 2007 6:38 am
Well today I completed my upper GI and everything looked great.  All I have left is the actual pre-op on November 19th and then the surgery is on the 26th.  I start my two week pre-op diet on Nov.12 which is the day my husband and I are landing in Germany.  Oh, well I will just take my goodies and enjoy the sites.  What a way to start my new life!

I just received the phone call from Dr. Nicholson's office stating they have the letter in hand and scheduled me an appointment.  My appointment date is October 25th and surgery date is November 26th!

My husband is going to Germany for business in November and I am going with him.  I am going to go have fun and enjoy looking forward to my new future.

My Story

As of the second week of November 2007 I was approved by my insurance company to have my WLS.  I have chose Dr. Nick Nicholson from the Baylor Clinic in Plano, Texas.  He was recommened to me by my family physician.

I would have never looked down this road until I was put in the hospital in May because I could no longer walk or stand without falling and in extreme pain.  The diagnosis was low thyroid and severe degenerative disc disease with 3 bulging disc and bone spurs on the entire spine.  I was told at that time to consider weight loss surgery or be confined to a wheelchair.  With type II diabetes, sleep apnea and high cholesterol I felt my prayers had been answered.

At 46 years old and 265lbs. I thought I was destined to fight this battle.  I have been overweight since I can remember.  I hated elementary school due to the constant teasing and being excluded from everything.  I was on weight watchers in the 5th grade.  Remember this was in the 70's....cannot count the number of programs and $$$$ I have spend on miracle diet pills.

This website has been a lifesaver for me.  Thank you to everyone for your insights and encouragement.
