Surgeon Testimonial

Gregory Walton, M.D.
Dr Walton and his staff did an excellent job. He does an excellent job of letting you know that he could not change my biological makeup, but he could give me a tool to help accomplish my wieght loss. He put me on a program where I was consulted with a dietatician and an excerise person. I have no doubt that if I follow his program I will be able to accomplish my goals.

I received an email saying congratulations on my 2 year anniversary.  I can't believe I actually forgot.  I guess that says a lot.  My life has completely changed.  I am still focused on maintaining a healthy life.  I still think about my food choses on a daily basis.  I am now looking forward but I will nevery forget what got me to highest wieght ever.

Behaviors I still do:

I still do not drink while eating even for an hour after I eat.
I (for the most part) choose healthy foods.
I still mainly eat solid proteins.... I love steak.

History of the weight lost...

January 09 - 6 month post op... I hit doctors goal at 159.  So I lost 70% of weight need to loose.  So I was down approx..70 pounds.

July 09 - 1 year Post Op... I hit my weight loss goal of 137!!!  Woo Hoo

July 10- 2 year Post Op... I am still at my goal of about 135. I wear a size 4 for the most part.  Amazing!!

In between July 09 and July 10 I lost more weight but I put some of it back on... thank goodness.  I had lost a little too much weight.  With the help of my diatician I put some back on and am maintaning with adding healthy fat into my diet.

If you are looking to loose your weight.  I wish you the best and hope you find a good diatician and surgeon to help guide you.  All I can say is listen to them.  Don't snack.  I am so thankful that I was able to break that habit for the most part.  I think it is esential to change the habits while you are not "hungry".

Where has the time gone.....Where has the weight gone.... I've lost 64 lbs since my surgery in July.  I'm wearing a size 12 jean and size 8 top.  I've alway had a big booty.  Maybe the next 20 lbs lost will be from my butt...lol.  We actually most of my weigh was carried in my hips so I've feel like I've had a 64 lbs child unwrapped from my hips.  The other day I walked into a branch where the staff had not seen me since I had surgery and it was sooo much fun.  They couln't believe how good I looked.  I have to admit that I ate it up.  I even did a cat walk for them without my blazer...lol  Anyway it's been fun.

3 week Post-op
on July 23, 2008 7:04 pm

I have survived and thrived 3 weeks now.  The last week has been the best.  I feel good, I'm eating, and I've started exercising.  Well for the exercise I just started a few days ago and I'm not doing anything difficult.  I have a treadmill but me and the treadmill are NOT friends. So I decided an exercise bike may work and it has.  See I'm lazy and I wanted to exercise but I want to also sit down.  The only issue is my behind hurts.  I have recently had issues with the vitiams and water but I picking back up my torch and trudging on.  I've officially lost 19 lbs.  Woo Hooo and we're just getting started.

2 weeks Post Op

Two weeks yeah!!!  I am down 16 pounds .... woo hoo! I am feeling more and more like myself.  I have started eating some protien and taking B12.  It has started helping me have more energy.  I'm not as exhausted in the evenings as I have been.  I still have to watch that I don't bulp big drinks of water.

I have experienced a relatively easy time since my surgery.  I do contribute that to my surgeon.  I wanted to note couple of the things that were different from what I have read online. So hear we go with my experience.....

1.  I read that you have to drink some awful drink the day after surgery...I didn't recall this experience so I asked my nurse and she said something like ... the surgeon injects you with the die right after surgery and checks for leaks when you are still out of it.  Cool...no gunk!!

2.  I have read a lot of people's profiles and they seem to be drinking a lot of protien drinks, powders and other stuff in order to meet a centain quota of protein.... my experince was different...The first two weeks were called ketosis. The nutritionist said one could live 8 weeks with out food or protien but just not water.  She also stated that if we needed protien when we were weak or faint to drink some.   So I have been drinking  64 oz of water a day.  I tried drinking the protein everyday but I don't really care for them.

3.  I have seen people complaining about have a lot of acid.  My doctor sent me home with a perscription of Protonix.  I have forgotten to take it and have noticed the frothy acidy feeling.  But otherwise I take the Protonix and don't have a problem.

Well that has been my first 2 weeks in a nutshell.

I am down 14 pounds... thrilled and disappointed both. I am thrilled because I could not have lost this weight as quickly as this without the WLS. Disappointed because I was thinking I would lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks. Well I suppose I'm going to have to work out if I want to lose that fast. LOL crazy thought!

I am so ready to start eating food. So today I did have some tuna and it help for my head hunger. I figured I would be able to in a couple of days so why not try it. It went well...I was afraid I would throw up but I dind't yeahhh!

My Story

Well let's see my story.  I am a 32 year old female.  I have struggled with my weight since my senior year in high school.  I have gained and lost since then but have decided to take "the bull by the horns".  It's really kind of funny to think about my whole life.  As a child I was so scrawny, everyone was after me about eating more food.  I was constantly told "you are too thin".  Then puberty hit at about 14 and instantly I got hips and started worring about my weight.

So how did I come to the conclusion of having the Sleeve done?  Well, it's not really all that exciting.  My aunt is one of the nurses for Dr Walton and I started asking her some questions about the weight loss diet in January.  I wanted to see if I could just go on the diet that they put their patients on.  She said do you not know about how the weight loss surgery works.  No, not really.  She had the surgery a few years ago and all I knew is she looks fantastic.  Well to make a long story short she told me when they remove the stomach that the hormones that produce hunger are removed for a while.  So I don't have an overwhelming urge to eat.  So she scheduled me an appointment to see a seminar.  After learning the the difference between the RNY, Sleeve, and Lapband, I decided that the Sleeve was for me.

Well I wanted to have the Sleeve done in February, then I had a weird EKG.  I had to go see a Cardovascular Dr.  Which was loads of fun.  In fact the whole experience freaked me out.  I found out that not only does my family have problems with Diabetis but also serious issues with Heart Disease.  But I also found out that insurance does not pay for the Sleeve.  So it was all delayed indefinitely.  But then I ended up getting a new job in May and decided to use some of my retirement to invest in myself.  So I called the Patient Advocate and started getting everything scheduled for July 2nd.  And it all worked out perfectly.

How did my freinds and family handle my news about WLS?  First of all I was very open about having the Sleeve done.  Well my family was very supportive.  In fact they were very encouraging.  But my friends had a mix of opinions.  Some were concerned that I had not tried other methods hard enough.  Some didn't believe I was big enough to have WLS.  Others were concerned about having Surgery period.  So I answered their questions.  But I told them that I appreciate their concern but this is my decision.  So by the time the surgery came most were very supportive.
