Surgeon Testimonial

Rajeev Vohra
My first impression of Dr. Vohra was good. He was warm, friendly, patient, and concerned. His staff, Gail and Jill are great. They were thorough and positively upbeat. Future patients should have no concerns. Dr. Vohra is very competent in his area of speciality regarding laproscopic surgery. He did hesitate to explain to me his decision of why he entered this particular area of medicine. He was skilled in laproscopic procedures of the stomach, gall bladder, liver, etc well before bariatric surgery was the norm. For the lay person who isn't familiar, surgeons who practice laproscopic surgeries as practicing ADVANCED methods of surgery. This is a bonus for the patient. Less scarring, less infection, faster recovery, better results. He emphasizes aftercare a great deal. Signing up with Dr. Vohra I realize I will have a long relationship with him well after the surgery and that is important, aftercare. He thoroughly answered all of the \"tough\" and \"difficult\" questions regarding risk. I was at ease. I would rate him at a 8 or 9, not a 10 yet because I have not had my surgery!! Overall in my opinion surgical competence is vary better than beside manner. You want a doctor (surgeon) who knows what their doing. Visit Dr. Vohra's website or google him. You won't be disappointed. Glad I waited and made an educated and firm decision regarding MY health.

ALMOST 1 WEEK POST OP
on April 6, 2008 9:52 am
Well its been 6 days since my surgery last Monday.  The surgery was easy, the recoup part was difficult.  2 days out after surgery I was given liquid potassium and that started a very bad decline.  I was sick for 24hrs immediatel thereafter, unable to no longer hold anything on my stomach (broth/water/jello) including me meds.  The MD's switched to all IV fluids including the liquid potassium which burned like hell.  My parents had to stay with me in the hospital overnight to take turns changing my clothes, sheets, etc.  It was pure hell.  But afterwards everything else was a peace of cake.  I thank God for 3 things (my Mom, my husband, and a private room).  I'm glad to be back home adjusting as expected.  First official weigh-in will be this week and we go from there down the slope.  I imagine sliding right into the mall around summertime.  I cannot wait fro some new sexy clothes!!!

TODAY MARCH 31 IS THE DAY!!
on March 31, 2008 4:39 am
I have finally reached this day despite delays, setbacks, conflicts, etc.  I'm so happy.  It was a bumpy road at times no on my behalf, but the usual navigation through the process.  I was approved in less than a month (thank God) for excellent insurance, but the hassle was coordinating all of the doctors, repulling paperwork, etc.  I switched surgeons and that started the bumps in the road.  I also switched procedures from open to laproscopic (much less scarring). The 2nd surgeon called for much more tests.  I cannot believe I had them all done by the end of 2007 actually my last exam was 12/31.  What a way to end the year.  But just when I thought I was clear, no, I had to go back and now get the original paperowrk and results from the 1st surgeon.  I could bitch all day.  But nevertheless I'm done.  I thank my husband for all the new jogging suits and stuff although I said to wait til after the surgery to shop!!  LOL!!!  I guess men really do know how we women are about our appearance.  So now I have a suitcase full of new stuff right down to the skivvies!!!  Almost forgot about the bag of goodies my Mom packed and gave me this morning.  Well here goes, see everyone on the losing side!

PS I promise to update my area asap!

Peace & Blessings Everyone......

2007 Almost Over!!!
on December 21, 2007 2:13 pm
Wow, so much has happened the past few months.  Just when I thought I was all done with the pre-op and ready for surgery I changed my mind.  Women are known to this regularly!  I am glad I did take the time for further opinions and surgical procedures.  I opted for another surgeon, my 3rd actually and am very well pleased.  I also opted to do the surgery laproscopically.  Now ALL of my pre-op exams are done and I am just waiting for submission to my insurance company and a surgery date.  In the meanwhile I have begun Optifast800.  So far, ok..........

RD's

Locating a good RD is like a needle in haystack.  Still searching and becoming quite frustrated.  Did anyone have similar problems?  If so how did you overcome this obstacle?

On another note, the summer is going quite well.  I've become so organized.  My husband decided to prepare a list of things he thinks I will need in the house. I feel its too early right now.  My family continues to be supportive.  At times, however I feel like their rushing me towards surgery.  I'm starting to wonder what's really on their minds.  I think I'm being paranoid!

My Story

WLS was a subject I had reviewed seriously approximately two years ago in 2005.  I did not become serious until 2007.  After earning my MBA and in the midst of a career change, I decided it was finally time for a life change.  After recently learning I had become a boderline diabetic (high sugar level), hypertension, and high cholesterol, I knew it was definitely time.  In addition my weight had mushroomed to well over 300lbs and was becoming more of a hindrance daily.  I remained in denial about my size because a person with a large bone frame you can hide the weight easier, yes even at 5'6".  However, living amongst everyone else where size matters, chairs, turnstiles, etc., I recognized I could not comfortably or easily fit anymore.  I am very glad I choose to go forward with the surgery.  I am most happy that my family whom I expected to flip out as most do, did not.  They are so supportive. I was shocked at their intial reaction of acceptance.  I realize they love me and were just waiting for me to recognize my own destruction.  Will I miss food?  No.  I was thinner previously up until my 30's, then a lack of exercise and complacent attitude took over.  I didn't realize until my wedding almost two years ago.  Although I was a beautiful bride, I still wished I had dropped more weight.  However after our wedding, I have gained much more than I ever have in my entire life.  Too comfortable of a lifestyle and yes good love of a good relationship & bliss with your partner can do that.  So now we're on the road to recovery and a better lifestyle overall.  I cannot wait to get the weight off permanently!  I'm so looking forward to rock climbing, learning to use inline skates, walking great distances without tiring, shopping and being able to wear a size 10 or 12 again, and buying a 2pc bathing suit once again......I'm reclaiming my life!  40 is the new 20, so I'm ready to be 20 all over again! LOL!!!
